Are We Descending Into Barbarism?
An Australian socialist group has withdrawn newspapers depicting Tony Abbott getting his throat cut by a straight razor.
The grisly Red Flag cover, which was accompanied by the headline "One cut we'd like to see, attracted more than 200 comments – most of them negative – on publisher The Socialist Alternative's Facebook page overnight.
"Oh ... not cool. I'm no fan of the LNP — policies, parties, associates or leader — but this seems unnecessarily violent," one post read.
Another said: "dreadful picture. DO NOT CONDONE violence to anyone. Even Abbott. You LOST me off this page and as a supporter."
The group released a statement this morning defending the Michael Callaghan-inspired cover, but said "legal concerns" meant they would be withdrawing it all the same.

How long before we become like the US and the Middle East where democratically elected leaders are deposed and/or assassinated?

It's nothing new, Icy, there was an actual assassination attempt on an Australian politician in 1966 - fortunately it didn't succeed. The target was Arthur Callwell, leader of the Labor Opposition at the time..

Do you mean - How long before we support the US in the Middle East murdering other nations leaders? Because if that's what you mean then - sorry too late.

Apart from the graphic image,I don't see much difference between this and a certain shock jock broadcasting that Julia Gillard should be tied up in a chaff bag and thrown overboard off the Sydney heads.
Beyond The Pale - no - morisson the minister for murder and border patrol - he is Beyond The Pale.

Looks rather tame compared to some of the depictions of Gillard...

I absolutely loathe Alan Jones, durri, and condemn the comments he made about Ms Gillard.
That doesn't mean it's ok to advocate and publish that kind of violent graphic on the front page of a newspaper.
Like or loathe our leaders, there is no excuse for that kind of depiction on the front page of a publication in a civilised country.
Good they had to retract it.

No different to how Julia Gillard was treated

its just a graphic, a bit silly - but it's nothing more. if it wasn't for whatever is in the c&p hardly anyone would have known about it.
