I would probably do it too... other people's children annoy me.

Teacher Priscila Davo Ortega suspended after sticky-taping mouths of giggling 10 year olds

A PRIMARY schoolteacher has been suspended for cellotaping over the mouths of her 10-year-old pupils after they refused to stop giggling and talking.

Priscila Davo Ortega, 27, allegedly lined up more than 20 children during her art lesson and put layers of sticky tape across their lips because they were being too noisy.

This is why I am not a teacher...

Teachers used to whack students on the knuckles with a wooden ruler, throw dusters at them etc when my older brothers were at school. One of them is still indignant at being whacked with a ruler. My mother talked of being clipped on the ear at school.
They probably didn't deserve it either, my brother was known as teachers pet.
Wouldn't want to go back to those days

My niece is a high school teacher in QLD. Does each state still set their own teachers salaries? I remember her saying she got paid less than a NSW teacher on a starting salary. She earns quite a bit less than her OH who has a pretty stress free not particularly skilled job and who doesn't have work to bring home to complete like she does.

yes they do

I was rapped across the knuckles with a steel edged ruler "When will you stop talking in class?"  Okay, I did talk too much.

My mother spoke fondly of the nuns.  However, my father taught by the brothers, told of being belted  about the head by the "thugs".

I have 6 close adult relations that are in the school system.

well I guess in all fairness some of the kids did end up with bleeding lips.. .that is not nice...

At least I can admit I could not handle it.... a good teacher is soooo underpaid. I wish we could afford to pay them double what they get.

Id be happy to find some teachers that are worth paying more. Havent really come across any so far.

Daughters Maths and Science teacher is about to take off to America for a 4 week holiday.

Ummm didnt they just start back at work after 8 weeks off?

they dont all have 8 weeks off. School finished in week 9 for kids and week 11 for staff. Started back in week 1 for kids and week 0 for staff. My school also had PD in some days in the new year. Teaching staff are also entitled to annual leave and long service leave at times appropriate to DECD

A kids in class was naughty and the teacher gave him the cane on his hands in the class. The kid said "put some muscle behind it next time."  When no one was looking the teacher punched the kid in the guts and said "Hows that for muscle"

In times past,a lot of children were "sacrificed" to the Church by family.  Once they had become nuns/brothers/priests etc, an alotment of say, 20 to nursing, 20 to teaching, 20 to missionary work, etc.  was required.  Didn't matter if they didn't want to do that particular work, one was told it was the Lord's wish.  Some were not happy people.

If a teacher had ever taped my children's lips shut I would have been livid.

WEEKEND binge drinking is taking a severe toll on the performance of our teenagers in the classroom, with hung-over students unable to learn and resorting to disruptive behaviour.

One in three teens aged 12-17 are consuming alcohol even though it’s not legal for them to do so.

And school principals are warning that parents have to start taking responsibility for a major social problem that could harm their children’s future and their developing brains.

A survey of 218 principals in Catholic, public and independent schools found that in many cases it was parents who purchased the alcohol for underage drinkers.

“Unsupervised parties a significant factor — fallout the next week can be major — unprotected sex, extreme drunkenness, drug use,” one principal told the survey.

Another shock finding of the Australian National Council on Drugs (ANCD) survey was that many kids were driven to drink by cyber bullying.

The survey found a significant amount of time is spent by teachers in the classroom trying to help students who drank on weekend catch up on their work or in dealing with disruptive behaviour while other students look on and wait.

Students who drank alcohol and used other drugs came to school late, tired and often with a poor attitude.

They were also in danger of developing a pattern of non-attendance.

While three out of four schools run drug and alcohol education programs, principals are resisting the idea they must play a greater role in managing what goes on outside their watch on weekends.
