Thrifting

 Thoughts?

 Yes? No?

What was your best bargain? Or do you avoid thrifting?

It sounds like op shops vary a lot maybe depending on location. Where I live in the inner suburbs of the city I have the choice of a few  shops that I go to including ,  3  Salvos, 2 Sacred heart, St Vins, All of their goods are immaculate and the shops sparkling clean and bright.  Recently I bought a barely worn Stella Mc Cartney pure wool long cardy for $8 (on half price day) and a pair of brand new leather Reeboks for $12.

There are always designer lables there but I don't look for the lables just quality.  So many bargains I've bought in the past, one being a beautiful Freedom  3 seater sofa, well sprung and spotless for $100.

The people who are disadvantaged with health cards are entitled to vouchers where they ccan buy things at considerable and affordable discounts and if in dire need pay nothing.

I just love op shopping. .   .

I suppose in this day and age of sweatshop produced goods, sold cheaper than second hand, even charity shops have to run with the times and increase their prices. They still provide a service to the "poor", here, pity the "poor" who labour long and hard to provide those low price goods that are sold at undercutting prices.

Yesterday i visited the oppo shop in Morwell i mentioned

on Tuesday in this thread--the one that had the write up in the local paper.

As i was leaving-noticed a shopping trolley of clothes waiting to be sorted.

Leaned over and said in a loud voice --somethings buzzing in there.

3 little old ladies (vollies) raced over to it.

Then they twigged--ducked a clip under the ear and made a run for the door.lol......................Richo.

I can't believe that op shops in cities actually change their prices on different days...

For me, thrifting has always been about getting something for a bargain that no-one else wants. Thankfully my Vinnies has always had low prices and they can afford to give regular thrifters a "discount", so to speak, if they're a few dollars short for a large bundle.

The Salvos here do Jessica, they have one  halfprice coloured tag each week and on one day a week half price for pensioners.  They are not so dear to begin with, not like some others, so half price is a steal.

I was looking through the local charity store this morning, and I found a big white china plate, glazed with a blue pattern.

Not the usual windmills, or country scene, but with a cheerful countenance on it.

I took it to the counter, and remarked on how uplifting a design it was. The lady there said "Oh yes, when delft smiles at you, all you can do is smile back". Smiley Wink

My library is having a big book sale atm. I had 10 dollars on me so was a bit restrained. Collected 3 dvds for the grandkids, a big hardcover on the "Mary Rose', 4 or 5 other novels. Decided I was probably pushing my luck with any more. Totalled to $4.90. That is thrifting. 🙂

It's such a nice feeling

To get a bargain

Don't really get that in

A regular shop for as

Much as things are on

Sale you wonder why

Couldn't they charge

That in the first place
