A reminder of the debt that Australia has, while Labor can bury their heads and deny it exists the fact remains we have a huge problem with debt and sooner than later the chips will fall, no business, no state and no country can keep operating in the red, eventually those we own the money to will own us. Who will own us?
The state of Qld has debt of $80 billion dollars, Labor are saying they don’t think it’s that bad, Bill Shorten on Australia’s debt, there is no debt crisis, there is a crisis and we are in this situation because of Labor, no one else and the bottom line is Labor can’t fix this problem, their speciality is creating debt not fixing debt.

We're a year and a half into the term of the coalition government, yet the cries of "But Labor.....!!" still ring out across the land.

Probably because wer'e still experiencing the effects of their disfunctional government.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott says the Australian Catholic University's decision to offer scholarships in honour of executed drug traffickers Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran is open to profound question.

Mr Abbott said there could be no truck with drug trafficking and the university's proposal sent a very unusual message.

He said this was an odd thing for a university to do, particularly an institution which was supposed to stand up for the best values.

Mr Abbott, a staunch Christian, said forgiveness was part of the Christian faith but another part called people to be their best selves.

"We know that they were repentant, we know that they were rehabilitated, we know that they seem to have met their fate with a kind of nobility and all of that is admirable," he told Sydney radio 2GB.

"But whether that justifies what has apparently been done is open to profound question."

I can't believe how educational institutes are weighing into this.

With all due respect to the families of Sukamaran and Chan - honouring them in this way is an insult to Indonesian students IMO.

Poor Bill, he thinks if he says "dysfunctional and chaotic" enough times people will actually  to listen to him.

What we are subjected  to from Labor now, and before, is  populism politics:

meaning that they will do things so much better, they will be so much fairer, they will be so much kinder,  they will only punish the "rich" just vote us back in and you'll see how much nicer we will be than the others.

This shameful antic is on show every day, every day Bill goes out there to have a "press conference" really it's just to blatt,  to spread his idea of government under him and we all know what happened last time.

Take a close look at this man, what is he actually saying? why does he have to use many more words than everybody else, his spiteful and cranky persona is still there, thinly veiled but visible, what are his core beliefs? or is he just the showbag all his party call him.

Interestingly it appears that Chan has written about his childhood and use of drugs and the document is used in drug education classes.

Paving the way on how to be a drug peddlar?

Not a happy ending for Chan

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

There has been a couple of threads about GST and online shopping from overseas retailers. Not going to happen with Abbott Govt.

The Australian

Ministers have rejected a proposal for a new charge on internet shopping that could have raised hundreds of millions of dollars, amid concern it would have been seen as a hit to consumers and a naked grab for more money.

The decision comes after ministers dismissed the idea of extending the deficit levy on wealthier Australians.

That could have added $1 billion a year to the budget bottom line but would have sparked divisions over the Prime Minister’s pledge to keep taxes low.

As key decisions go down to the wire, federal cabinet is yet to cement major policy details and has pushed back the final meeting on the budget from tomorrow until Thursday.

Tony Abbott gains ground as preferred prime minister but Labor leads Coalition

A Newspoll, published by The Australian on Tuesday, shows Mr Abbott and Mr Shorten are now equally preferred PM by 38 per cent of voters each.

This is a large improvement for Mr Abbott who trailed Mr Shorten by 11 points in March.

Mr Abbott's personal rating also increased to a seven-month high of 37 per cent, although a majority (56 per cent) of voters continue to disapprove of his performance.

Mr Shorten's personal approval numbers are now similar to Mr Abbott with 34 per cent approving and 50 per cent disapproving.

Overall, the poll showed a slight improvement in the two-party preferred polling for Labor, up 1 point in the past three weeks to 52 per cent to the Coalition's 48 per cent.

A rival poll by Roy Morgan, published on Monday, had Labor down one point in the past fortnight to 53 per cent and the Coalition on 47 per cent on a two-party preferred basis.

The small difference between the polls, both based on preference flow at the last election, is well within their respective margins of error and indicate Labor is comfortably ahead of the government.
