I remember reading the Bryce Courtenay book "Mathew Flinders Cat" which has the story of Trim's adventures  intertwined with a crime story of the seedy underworld of Sydney.  One of the better Courtenay books in my opinion.

Darn!  I never did read that book, Amber! I gave it as a gift once.

I loved Bryce Courtenay's storys of colonial Aus, but somehow shied away from that one! Don't know why! I might pick it up at the oppies!

It's not really about colonial Australia.  The Matthew Flinders part of the story is the smaller part.  The main story is about modern (well, 1980s -1990s) Sydney.  It is one of his better books though.  I find his stuff very hit and miss - really enjoyed some and just flicked through others.

That's probably why I never read it. I picked it up a cpl of times, read the blurb on the back and put it down again.

I didn't really like any of his later stuff. It was like he was churning out books just to satisfy his publisher.

Some of his books are okay, others are a bit tedious.

I enjoyed Matthew Flinders' cat though.

If anyone is interested in Matthew Flinders I can recommend a book by Ernestine Hill.....My Love Must Wait.

It must be 55 years since I first read it but I can still remember how much I enjoyed it.
