The request does not necessarily mean police believe the thieves were guilty of the crime, but indicates they want to get more information to rule them in or out of the investigation.

Police investigating the disappearance of missing British girl Madeleine McCann are planning to arrest three burglars in Portugal who were operating in the area in 2007 when the girl disappeared.
The arrests are set to come after detectives involved in Operation Grange left for Portugal on Sunday night, the Daily Mailreports.
The police are believed to be seeking three thieves โ prime suspects who were identified earlier this month after phone-data analysis showed they made an unusually high number of calls to each other following the Madeline's disappearance on May 3, 2007.
Scotland Yard confirmed that the Crown Prosecution Service had sent an International Letter of Request to Portuguese police relating to the three burglars.
A spokesman for Madeline's parents, Kate and Gerry, said that while this new lead was a "significant development", it did not prove the suspects had their daughter.
"Kate and Gerry don't want to build up their hopes too high but they realise it could be a significant new lead," the spokesman said.
I hope the family can finally get some closure.

Top job.
Still, I'm glad it was all sorted out - I'm sure it will make a huge difference to the investigation.

when did they send it ?
Why don't you call Scotland Yard and find out?

British police plan to arrest three burglars who made โmany phone callsโ after the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Portugal in 2007, a British newspaper has reported.
The Mirror says the Crown Prosecution Service last week sent an official request to Portuguese police asking permission to arrest the trio, who reportedly raided other holiday flats at the Praia da Luz resort where the three-year old was on holiday with her parents.
It is the second โInternational Letter of Requestโ from Scotland Yard, after an earlier letter requesting mobile phone data.

Considering Scotland Yard won't disclose the contents of the letter it wrote to the Portuguese, the newspaper that started that story is getting carried away. The Portuguese claim they haven't got the letter yet, so they don't know the contents of it yet either.

.
The day the 'investigators' compel Kate McCann to answer the 42 questions she refused to answer way back when
will be the day I grant one iota of credence to anything the McCanns, Scotland Yard and the media have to say about any of it
