What you think about this? My granddaughter's leather school shoes fell to bits from walking home in the rain. Mum bought her a cheap pair of black canvas ones which was all she could afford that week.
Now here's the whinge I have. The school made her take them off, walk around bare foot and walk home from school with no shoes on!!:-(X-(
Does this constitute child abuse?? Psychological I mean.

I have to agree Bump it is a very extreme behavior on the teachers side and if she is imposing that kind of punishment on trivial matters then you have to wonder what she does when a child actually does something that is worthy of reprimand. I agree I know its hard but I would requesting an apology and if there are any further issues with the teacher another class might be in order.

I had the school principle off of school grounds steal my hat off of me.
Had I been a little more cluey I should have reported him for theft walking home from school.
While he was busy being a bully with the uniform, two of his teachers were having phsyical relationships with students under his nose.

Our high school has an info sheet with photos as to which styles are suitable and which are not especially for girls, e.g. those very thin and flat ballet styles and also mary janes do not give enough coverage or support.
I totally sympathise with the problem of finding sturdy leather lace ups that do not fall apart after a couple of months or even weeks. I stopped buying Clarks shoes for my son, they were ridiculously overpriced and no better than the cheapest brands, they all fell apart the same. These days they are just glued together not stitched as they used to be. I've found the ROC brand are very sturdy and reliable and for my son I bought him Lynx sport shoes in the black leather, they are very comfortable and fit the bill for OHS rules.
Bring back the Bata school shoes, they were well made. You can still get them in other countries.

I think the best quality AND comfortable for kids school shoes are the ones you get from sports shoe shops, the soles and supports are much more like sports shoes and the leather is usually soft and ready to wear, unlike many of the traditional school shoes - I remember weeks of blisters trying to wear in Dr Marten school shoes cause that's what was "cool"!
The sports style school shoes are more expensive, I think about $80 and my daughter outgrew her first pair in prep so had a 2nd pair. Ouch! And she's just outgrown the 2nd pair so in a little over a year she's had 3 pairs. But I am obsessed with comfortable and ergonomically correct school shoes. Her 1st and 2nd pairs showed very little sign of wear despite being worn every day except sports day, so I do think the quality is superior to other kids shoes I've seen at her school.

There is a brand out called Ascent which are advertised as "Sports shoes disguised as school shoes" They are proper leather school shoes, but are designed like sneakers so kids can run around.and be kids

We've stopped buying Clarks as well and have found Grosby and Omni from Payless to be of good value and quality. They are leather and last a whole school year with no problems. My 15 yr old has small feet though (like me) but I have seen other similar leather shoes there that are above size 6 ladies.

"Sports shoes in disguise" - yes they do look really good. Little more expensive but worth the cost I think.

I think it's always worth paying a bit more for good shoes.. Or you're only going to spend more on new shoes when the cheap ones fall apart
My school shoes from year 10-12 were Doc Marten boots which I saved up for myself.
Not only did I wear them every day for school, but I wore them outside of school as well..
I got 10 years out of those boots
You can also buy Doc Marten shoes for school, they are expensive but they last for ages and unlike other shoes, these are still stitched together

Docs last forever. I still have my boots from 20 yrs ago. I remember paying $180 for them back then.
