Well all things are possible UFO.... there is now evidence emerging that man has been on this planet for millions - not thousands - of years...
Once we get past being comfortable in the 'Adam & Eve' mythology or the Darwinian theories, we might find we have a far greater and more interesting history than we yet imagine.
We'll just have to wait and see

Evidence shows the Earth has had 6 mass extinctions. What if...before dinosaurs there was a race of beings that knew it was coming but couldn't stop it, but instead built a ship that could either fly faster than light (time travel, wormholes, folding space, etc...). They would need to in order to reach other planets.
If that did happen they could have genetically altered their bodies not to need all that muscle mass. It would be a waste of resources, especially since it's not needed in zero gravity.
They reach their destination, establish a home. Now they decide to come back and see how the earth is managing. Even though maybe only 50 years has passed for them, traveling faster than light (or those other methods) the earth would be 100s of thousands or even millions of years older.
So those aliens could be the original inhabitants.

It is quite possible. One theory is that future human beings are already travelling through time machine back to now and working in high posts controlling the masses. During WW2 it is speculated that Albert Eeinstein had invented time travel and the nazis managed to get it before he escaped to the United States. If this did happen it would have been possible to go back in time, change history and create a new time line or create a new parallel dimension with a new time line / or another theory the nazis ported away once they realised the war was lost.
