I was going to title this topic COVID vaccination rates and opening up at 80% (by the numbers) . . . but went with the one suggested by countess on another thread.
Please note that I am not starting this thread for the discussion of COVID vaccination, making vaccination mandatory or the pros/cons of vaccination.
This thread is also not for posting about 'early stage treatments' for COVID. I may well report any such posts for being off-topic if they are made.
I won't be posting arguments for or against vaccination, just the numbers and percentages that will drive the easing of restrictions.
The intention of this thread is to provide an analysis of the figures that I haven't been able to find elsewhere. It is for me to post screengrabs of an Excel spreadsheet that shows the double dose percentages that will become crucial in opening up the country.
I will prepare a spoiler so that members can see how the spreadsheet numbers are calculated. The spoiler will also note the source I use for spreadsheet preparation.
If anyone notices any errors in my calculations or screengrabs then please let me know.

Now that just about every state is over the 90% double vaccination rate, or approaching it, what we really, really need to be seeing in stark print is the numbers in hospital, numbers in ICU and numbers on a ventilator and the % of those who have been double vaccinated.
The sheer number of new omicron cases in places like NSW & Vic is going to mean that despite vaccination, there will be more raw numbers having to enter the hospital system and a massive strain on them. More than there has been.
Just being a devil's advocate here. Back in the past, the government talked about eg putting smokers or the obese at the bottom of the list for some treatments or even refusing treatment in some cases, on the grounds that they were not looking after their own health. What happens if we get to a situation where there aren't enough ventilators? Should the double vaxxed or those with a medical exemption get priority?
on 06-01-2022 03:46 AM
Springyzone, if resources are limited to such an extent that ventilators can only be given to some, not all, that need them in ICU, medical professionals will make a medical decision based on their knowledge and experience... and they'd almost certainly use the resources to save those most likely to have a positive outcome. Irrespective of what they feel about people who refused vaccination, that won't play into treatment decisions.

The Reff is rather meaningless at the moment, because the case numbers are all over the place with delayed reporting of RAT results and the overwhelmed pathology lab results... so take these with a grain of pink Himalayan salt.

------------------
😁I love that. LOL
And so true.
I was reading that at the moment, those in NSW have no way to officially register their RAT results, whereas we in Vic do, you can do it online.
Both Queensland and Victoria have already set up a system for those who test positive on a RAT to report their result online, meaning their infections numbers are likely more accurate.
NSW premier Dominic Perrottet says a similar system will be available via Service NSW sometime in the next week.
But I've become aware of a scam that this opens up. (and isn't that always the way when we leave things to be privately monitored?)
A positive RAT test can now be linked to money and a person can still claim the government allowances for not being able to work etc
So there is a market now on facebook, so my daughter tells me, for positive RATs.
I don't know what the solution is or how widespread that sort of thing would be but once we get enough RAT kits out there in the shops, perhaps only anyone who shows positive should go for a PCR test if they feel very unwell or need documentary proof.
