WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Go off the beaten track today, I said to myself. Try some more way out words and see where they lead you.

So, that worked out well, I don't think!😂

I was very pleased with myself and rather surprised too, if the truth be known, to have one of the words jump out at me after 2 turns.

That second word is an ever popular perennial too. Time to be rested for a spell.

Just average results in quordle.

Bottom left has popped up before. In fact I think some of the others have as well. But not yesterday, at least.

Very average results in octordle, although it is not hard.

As usual, I tried out some possibles that turned out not to be the right choice.

I suspected the last word a few turns earier but wanted to get cracking on a couple of others.

Only hint I can think of is one word is more suited to the table than the cemetery.

…But my most frequent starter proved very useful.

Raid transport got the job done for this Dordle. I had to use an eliminator to uncover a vowel for the left, as well as try to determine further letters for the right.

After my starter, I knew bottom left was one of a limited number of words and I needed to eliminate vowels. From row 2, I knew that the bottom left must be one of two words. My row 3 eliminator made it absolutely clear what bottom left was, and also told me what top left and bottom right must be… so I played row 4 with the solution for bottom left, then played top left and bottom right. I was left with top right, and I’d known what that must be by row 6, as a result of one new letter appearing in the yellow.

All in all, even though the words aren’t new, they were pleasingly arranged and logical to solve.

One of my eliminators was the bottom left word!

I then needed another eliminator -SLIMY - and from that I knew top right would be one of two words. I also knew what 2nd block right must be, and 2nd block left also.

3rd block left - well, I knew it must be one of three possible words, with only the 4th letter in doubt. I went for the letter I thought most likely (based on how often it’s popped up in these Octordles before) and it was correct.

3rd block right - I only had three letters. Based on the letter in 4th place, there were few options left for what the final letter must be, and in fact it came down to one (based on the remaining letter that could be used and the ones already in play). That meant only one possible word; I played it, and it was correct.

That gave the necessary information for bottom right.

And that gave me another green position for top left word… I already knew the starting word, and in fact I had all of the letters by now for it, so I played the word, and it was correct.

There weren’t any new words in this, but it was fine.

The left word fell right into my lap, as an eliminator that I sometimes use.

I had to work harder for the word on the right.
