I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I guessed this 5-letter word in 4/6 tries.

I’d actually forgotten how to do this and I stuffed up the yellow square lol.
I’ve not had a go at octordle….. I’ll have to give it a go. Been a few years since I’ve played Wordle….

It's easy to get mixed up. Often I see a yellow and the first words I think of are ones that have the yellow letter in that same position. I have to consciously tell myself-nope, it is yellow, that's NOT where it goes.😁

I was lucky with wordle today in that I had 2 greens to start with.
But I am kicking myself as a possible answer came instantly into my mind but I thought-hang on, slow down and see if there are any other possible solutions. There were so I went with one. Wrong. So I thought, blow it, I'll just go with my first. That was it! I could have had it in two!

Kermit, I have now got to the stage I prefer octordle to wordle in lots of ways but way back, when I first saw it, I felt overwhelmed, that it was just 'too much'.
But it's not, you do get used to it. It can be tricky though (for me)
I didn't cover myself in glory today. I eventually got there but I made some stupid, stupid mistakes.
Mainly word 8. Right from my first guess, I saw that word 8 had an 'e'.
I am not giving too much away to reveal that, everyone will want to use the 'e' early on to uncover it.
So I knew there was an e somewhere in #8 yet in turn 6 I looked at the other letters I had there and immediately jumped into a guess that I was sure would be it... but I had overlooked the fact it had to have e!
😩
In number 5 I also made a wrong guess but at least that was a sensible guess, possible.
My score is going backwards today though.

I had such a good starter… but a horn of plenty for the remaining two letters! My carefully chosen eliminator ruled out all but one word, but it’s mentally taunting to be so close to a 2-row solution and still need an eliminator.

I had a bumpy Dordle road today. A sparse starter… what possessed me to use IDEAS? My second was even worse… and it was only with a still ungenerous row 3 eliminator that I uncovered the LH word.
I still took a bit of a guess for my RH word but I can only blame myself for the series of letters I’d used initially.

Even with my using an eliminator at row 5, I had too many choices for row 7. My guess was a lucky one, and even with that I only had a 7 - no cause for crowing or strutting at all.
This is a strut-free result.

Springyzone, like you I tackled 2L last… as I had the 2nd, 4th and 5th letters in place with my starter, but 1st and 3rd letters had a large field and I didn’t want to waste turns trying to narrow down those possibilities without seeing whether I’d uncover them in the course of solving the other words first.
SPINY was my 2nd row eliminator, and I was able to solve 2R immediately, followed by 3L, which gave me 4L and 1L. I was by then reasonably certain about 4R, and the confirmed consonant that completed it helped me with 1R. That in turn gave me 3R, and I could then tackle the final word.
By waiting, I’d ruled out every possibility - save for two words. I judged which I thought most likely and went for it. I was right… and there we are — 52.

Even after the first 2 turns, there were a few possibilities.
Now octordle. I was very disappointed.
I was going okay, at turn 3 I guessed #1 easily. Nothing much else it could be!
But then on word 4, I chose the wrong word. I knew straight away that my score would be rubbish. You can afford to make a mistake after half way but if you want to break the 60 barrier, you normally have to get the first few right after turn 2, or so I have found.
Anyway, I then solved word 4 with the only remaining thing it could be, then had a go at word 2. Wrong again.
So now I knew my score would be really, really bad. I was kicking myself as the word I chose for word 2 was logical enough but I have been caught before with that word, where I choose the wrong ending.
All in all, an average score. Better than yesterday (slightly) so I can't complain.

Nice. I started with DROIT, followed with BEAUS, and I was able to make a guess that could have gone wrong (but didn’t).
