I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I had a couple of possible answers in mind for this but luckily chose the right one.
Now for my moment of excitement.
Octordle.
Maybe my equal best. If I can get 51, you may well be able to get into the 40s with this one. Good luck!

I left the first word till last. I had almost solved it, except for the first letter, by turn 6. So I had had one wrong attempt and knew there were still 2 possibilities. Once I was able to solve number 8, I also had the answer to number 1.
I think I was helped a lot by the fact #3 and #5 are similar. Solve one, you virtually have the other.

What a great result for Octordle! You deserve that frisson of excitement when you behold the result, but the best sensation is when those words come nicely into their squares…

My starter was CATER. I made an immediate guess for 2L, where I had the choice of two letters; that result gave me 3L.
Then I looked at 4L; I had the last 3 letters, so I chanced a guess which was correct. This gave me another letter for 4R, and again it was a bit of a guess… but again I was lucky.
That in turn gave me another letter for 3R, and I could see the word that must be there.
Top left now… obviously must be what it was. And that gave me 2R.
Now I looked again at top right. Holy smidgeon on a stick! I had still only two letters, only one of which was green. There was no choice but to play an eliminator. I’m so glad I played one that started with that particular letter.

I knew what the LH word must be, except for the initial letter. I played an eliminator to choose between the possibilities, and that also gave me another letter for the RH word. Done!

It was that bottom left word that stretched this out to 7. I could see three possibilities fitting that sequence (taking note of what couldn’t go where, and what letters remained, and what might be used twice). My row 6 guess was wrong, and I was left with two possibilities. Ah well, at least my second guess was correct. Swamp avoided.

The position of the greens and the fact some vowels were out of the running meant there were limited words it could be.
Now octordle. Back to my usual style, I am afraid.
I suspect I could have broken the 60 barrier to perhaps 58 or 59 had I paid more attention to word 8.
I had a good idea of where the letters must fit except I wasn't sure what letter would be in the middle. Some choices seemed more likely than others so i waited and eventually it seemed there was only one word it could be so I typed it in... and looked up, to realise there was a letter exposed that I had missed. For some reason, I'd thought it eliminated. Would have made my job easier several turns earlier had I counted it.😂

A brilliant result. It was obviously the blacks that cut down the possibilities but still, great work on your part!
Today with wordle, I decided to 'go for it' after my first word but it took 2 tries. My first guess didn't turn out to be valid.

Now octordle was a sorry story. I didn't do anything wrong, no 'stupid' mistakes like yesterday, but boy oh boy, some tricky ones in that there were too many possibilities.
After my very first turn, I was pleasantly surprised to notice that I had 4 yellow letters in #2 & 3. What is more, they were exactly the same letters!
I was rubbing my hands with glee.
But then I started to write down on paper what words I could make & I came up with about 4 so I decided I probably couldn't have that 'solve on second turn' boost I had hoped for. And I went with my usual second word eliminator instead. It helped.
But then for turn 4, it felt murky so I used another eliminator and it helped a lot.
Word 4 though took me 3 tries before I got it right. I had everything except the 4th letter.
Even at the end, I had very little for word 6.
All in all, this octordle was way trickier for me than I thought it was going to be after my opening word.
