WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

This looks better than it felt.

I was completely unexpectedly lucky with my first eliminator in row 2; it was actually the solution to top right.

I then played PLUMB as my eliminator in row 3. I was able to keep going from there.

For me, this was easier than usual as after a couple of turns, I could see what some answers were likely to be, so I got off to a good start.

CATER and SPINY were not at first glance very informative, but I made my first guess for bottom left with a feeling of “Well, let’s give this word a try.” It was correct. Every subsequent guess flowed smoothly.

I ruled out some possibilities with my eliminator based on a suspicion that the two yellows might just be adjacent to each other…

TRACE and MOUND were my first two, which led me to make a guess at the top right. I hovered between a sticky solution and a later solution there…

4L and 4R were easy after that, with 3L also falling into my lap. I had to pause then, and think seriously about 2L. I reasoned that with the vowel in question not being in 3rd or 4th place, almost certainly it’d be in the 2nd position, and that narrowed down the identity of the remaining three letters. I was right.

That meant that 1L (top left) was almost certainly either one of two possible words (different starting letter). Lucky guess. At the same time, 3R had revealed itself to me.

By now, I’d reached the final word in 2R. It couldn’t be the word with double letters because 1L had ruled that out. Two possibilities that I could see, of which one was by far the most likely, gave me only a moment’s hesitation, and I played that final word. Done!
