I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Only just scraped in with octordle.
I made a wrong guess at turn 3, with #7. I tried stand, which I thought was the most likely.
Although stand was wrong, the answer was then immediately apparent but I didn't do it then, as #5 was solved. I should then have gone back to finish #7 but I played an eliminator for the other words.
Strategic mistake, should play them when I know them.
I did make another mistake for #8, trying bossy before mossy. I knew it must be out of those two but jumped on the wrong one.

Cold again, swathed with thick pearl-bleached swaddling.

TRACE gave me a good start. I really needed to start removing or including more vowels. I also had likely consonants to deal with. I think I did well with my 2nd row eliminator.

I used TRACE again, and threw BOING onto the tiles as my 2nd row eliminator.
I could solve 2R straightaway after the eliminator, and that gave me 1L.
Because I’d already ruled out two particular letters, I could then solve 4L. 4R followed swiftly as I only needed the final letter.
At this stage I thought I could make a good guess for 1R.
2L also needed a guess for the initial letter. I took more time considering this than over any other word in this Octordle.
But after that, the final two words were straightforward.

I was almost going to go to bed without bothering today but I had to get online to put in a bookclub order for the grandkids. I haave made a rod for my own back here. Last year I bought them all a book almost issue & now they come to me with their choices circled but the oldest granddaughter is quite canny these days. If her brother orders a book worth eg $15, she makes sure she has books to about that value too.
I guess it is helping her with her maths.😂
With wordle. I had a feeling about what the ending might be so I tried something slightly different in second spot.

Then onto octordle.
Oh happy day!
I actually felt a little underwhelmed after my first word as one square didn't expose a single letter and a couple of others, not much.
I was ready to automatically move on to my usual second word when I realised the start of that would work very well in the only 2 unsolved boxes for #6. So I deviated and so solved something at turn 2, a rarity for me.
But it left me with a problem in that I had already used 2 letters from my usual eliminator (shout) and needed to think of a new one that would cover the vowels.
I tried croft. No U, but some useful consonants.
I was undecided what to try at the end for #3, rotor or motor.
I went with rotor only because it is the exactly the sort of thing the puzzle makers would do, repeat a letter.

A new day - although it’s still foot-chillingly cold in the small dark hours…

It felt too easy. None of the words here gave me any sort of fight, and I can’t pretend there was the same feeling of satisfaction as I’d have liked. I started with TRACE and used LINGO as my 2nd row eliminator.

Well… I’m a bit surprised that I solved this in 3.

Had I used any of the other eliminators I was considering, it might have been a more wobbly guess.
TRACE was my starter.

Good morning, countess. You & I are up at the crack of dawn today. I have a coffee in front of me (usually have tea first thing but decided to ring the changes and live wildly 😂). So I came online to do some word games to pass the time.
Not cold here. My husband has a thing about the temperatures and never lets it fall low. Always like a hothouse in here. Big heating bills. I worry about what he will be like in Europe with no vita brits and some places with no heating or cooling.
Wordle today.

With 4 letters to play with, the answer was the first one to pop into my head. As soon as I pressed enter though, I thought, oh no, what about fault. Luckily my choice was the answer.
I had a good day with octordle.
After my first 2 turns, the answer to #6 was reasonably clear and after that, #2 was pretty well solved too.
With #3, after my second turn actually, I did sit here and think- could it be quins? Or using? I left it for a while but eventually had to make the call but had rejected quins because-plural.😁.
