I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I was not thrilled by this result, but… it would have been sheer luck to do any better.

It could have been a lot worse. “WIGHT” - I knew early on that it was _IGHT, but that left me with fight, light, might, night, sight, wight. “Squad” ruled out sight, “serif” ruled out fight, “milky” ruled out might and light… It could still have been “night”, but if it had been, I thought it somewhat likely that there’d be another use of “N” in one of the other words. At any rate, by the time I came to that final word, I thought it would be typical of Octordle to have “wight”, so it played it.

SpoilerDidn't have enough information to start solving after turn 2 so went for a 3rd eliminator (pricy).
Made a mistake on turn 9 #8 when I tried might.
After that, I knew it was out of tight/wight but later tried tight as I felt that was more likely. Wrong.
I am glad I held off with #3 as I thought drill/frill/krill were all possibilities but towards the end, was able to eliminate the first 2.
Yes… you had some of my dilemmas, I can see! I did have “tight” rules out because of my starter… but I am supposing you had both “light” and “night” ruled out in place of that.
I benefited from using an eliminator further along; the sooner an eliminator is used, the more it costs.

This was better.
I did take a risk with my first guess; I went with my gut instinct.

One piece of luck was in using DINGO as my 3rd-row eliminator. That final “O” in macho was pinpointed.
But one piece of bad luck was in my not having used “MOUND” as my eliminator. For goodness’ sake, it’s one of my stable of eliminators!

I know the pattern after turn 2, but coast/roast/boast/toast?
Turn 3 was an eliminator, brick. I really fancied coast but luckily turn 3 set me straight.
