WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I so wanted to try another eliminator for turn 3, but oh the shame, especially as I had 4 letters exposed in #2.

How hard can it be, I thought.

So I forced myself to sit there for a while till inspiration came, because I knew I would have to front up here and show results. 🤣

Mm-hmm… yes, the risk of a shameful error!

But you played it perfectly.

My sequence was 62 and my rescue was 8.

Because I don't normally post results of those on here, I usually approach sequence differently. as if I have a bowl of popcorn and I am just seeing where the plot leads me.😂

I have no sense of urgency on the first word and I'll often play 3 eliminators in a row, even if I have a suspicion of the answer.

Usually I just go alien/shout (you would never have guessed!) then maybe pricy and then I may guess or if not, I may go for fudge. (not fudgy as I have already covered Y ending & I figure the e in last spot might help further down the line)

After that slow beginning, they usually all fall into place because I have covered so much of the alphabet. It's a bit of a lazy method, I guess.

The popcorn method of solving… My sequence score is the most variable, I have to admit. I find it hard to focus only on that first word, knowing that the other words will need letters helpful to them without knowing whether the letters I’ve already used are helpful to them.

Rescue is so illogical! I mutter “Who on earth would ever use this ridiculous and haphazard way of guessing?” under my breath…

As soon as I’d played my starter, I had 4 letters revealed for 1R, and 3 letters (2 of which were green) for 2R. 1R was clearly 1 of 4 possible words… yet I decided to plunge into a guess for 2R first. I can’t explain it; it was not a logical decision.

🤣😂🤣

That sums up my thoughts.

The popcorn method.🤣

So true though. With some words in sequence, I actually am taking care of future planning.

With the rescue, it is so ridiculous that I think it must actually be tricky for them to put it together, so that there is always enough there to solve at least one straight off, or maybe two, but not the others quite yet.

It's not that I had no idea after turn 2, it is that I had too many ideas.🤣

I started to write them down.

My first inclination was rodeo. I really, really wanted to just go for it, I don't know, maybe I should have. I would have been wrong, mind you, but probably no worse off than I ended up being.

But as it was, I decided I needed another eliminator.

I used crimp. That got rid of some possibilities but not enough.

So I tried bawdy next. Goodbye rodeo. 😂

By turn 5, I just couldn't see my way clear, so played another eliminator (burps. Not all that refined but it got me moving again.😂)

With extreme, my score was 66. Just too many possibilities & did not start solving till turn 4, and a slow popcorn a couple of times along the way.😂
