WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

A Short Discourse on Ralph

Like you, I like the name Ralph. Its use as “vomit” annoys me, but it isn’t used in this way except in North America as far as I’m aware.

Etymologically its source is unknown. There is some suggestion that it could be onomatopoeic (similar to barf, which also appeared in the US originally), but it may also derive from the name (so presumably there would have been a Ralph who was particularly known for his vomiting).

Coincidentally, both ralph and barf were first seen in the 1960s.

I refuse to let this use negate my liking of the name.

After my first 2 turns, I didn't have a clue.

My mind was ticking over with opium, odium but with no U, I could see they were impossible. Droid or kiosk or idiot didn't work either.

My 3rd word was prism.

With the R out of the game, I or O became the main contenders for first spot. Got there.. eventually.

Straight after my first turn, I knew this was not going to be an award winning game as nothing jumped out of me, so shout it was for second go.
By the time I got near the end, I was stuck. Was #7 motel or towel? I'd been waiting all game for more clues but none came my way. Same with #8, was it wager/wader/gazer?
So, another eliminator-dogma. That solved the problem, but really-gazer again?

I can't complain, 52 is about as good as it usually gets for me, but I knew straight after my first turn that this was indeed not a red letter day on any of them.

The main surprise here was #6 nappy. I had been considering nanny for a while earlier on.
And #1 I was off track, thinking folly, dolly etc till later on when the Y came up yellow in spot 5.

Lefty is dreadful; I would love to eliminate it from Octordle’s database.

This was a curiously unsatisfying puzzle; it didn’t feel as though things flowed well. If I hadn’t taken a successful stab at “creep”, my score would have risen without a clear way forward.
