WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

Most of these were straight forward. I feel we meet some familiat friends again in this one-warty, lowly.

My main hesitations were at turn 5. Tribe/trice/write/tripe. To me, it was between tribe abd write and I felt for the classic, probably write, so went with it.
Which helped solve #3, as I had that pegged as folly/jolly (surely not again)/dolly/golly/lowly

Then I made a mistake for #2 (scamp instead of smack), but hey, it helped solve #8 as I really could not decide between steed and steep.

I felt a moment of panic before turn 3 as I thought there might be nothing to clearly solve, then I saw #8.

Obviously there could have been other answers but they were unlikely.

#8, slack. Unlikely to be eg slams or slaps. That's not the octordle way we know and love, is it!
Ah, and here comes the grassy knoll, been a while since he was last out.
I was thinking of pearl for #5 but leafy is their usual go-to.
I was actually inclining towards bitty or witty for #7 till the D was exposed.

There was a leafy knoll, a cargo claim, a bathing of radar, and a slack ditty. Most of it was completely straightforward; I opted for ditty as witty appeared very recently - but of course, that’s not always a successful manoeuvre since Octordle is unscrupulous in reusing words even a day or so after the last appearance.

I then had the feeling it would be a -ound pattern, although it could also possibly be something like unbox.
Thank goodness hound and sound were not in contention, but that left W R P F B M to sort out.
My 3rd eliminator was frump, which covered 4 out of 6, so you'd think I'd have had a good chance of uncovering the right letter. No such luck.
It at least also eliminated unbox though. So that left wound or bound and I went with wound simply as it was first cab off the rank on the keyboard plus they seem to like W sometimes.
But it was 50/50 for a 4 or 5 liner.

I had a bit of luck with this one, as my first eliminator worked out reasonably well.

Spoiler
12 cl.jpgI did have to go back to an eliminator by turn 3, mind you.
I couldn't quite see my way clear on any of the others after turn 2.
I had #5 tentatively tagged as apply and #6 as speak or smear. #1 was alloy or allow or maybe allot.
Even #3 could have been space. #7 arial/axial (though I strongly favoured axial and should probably have taken a risk & just gone for it before the eliminator)

But hey, got there in the end.

I was surprised to score so well, considering the mistakes I made. I was expecting it to be in the 60s, for sure.

The first eliminator didn't work half as well in this one, lean pickings.

12 ex.jpgI guess #1 could have been shuck, but I liked shush more.

I didn't really love reedy for #3 but I couldn't see what else it could be at that stage. What I really wanted was N so i could make nerdy.😂
And #7, I'd thought maybe boozy till the B was eliminated. Then woozy wasn't it either.
Can't win them all!
By that stage though there were hardly any letters left, so I was able to guess it at the end.

It could have been found … but at least my second eliminator reduced the field from bound, found, hound, mound, pound, wound.

If I’d used “downy” or some other W-containing word, I’d have had a very good chance of a 3-rower… but let’s be frank: W is not a likely go-to letter for a Wordle eliminator! No, I’m just glad to have solved this one in 4 rows.
