I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

4L (eight) gave me 3R (hunky), which I’d otherwise have thought was funky. That led me to 2L (rainy).
3L was obviously mason. 4L was either demur or femur; 2R was either drill or frill; 1R was either fable or valve. Given the preponderance of “F” possibilities for the other two words, I strongly suspected that 1R would be fable. If I were wrong, playing fable would at least rule on 3L and 4L. My luck was in, and it was fable.
4L was revealed as femur, and 2R must be drill. Done! — But bear in mind that if I’d tried solving 4L first, I think I’d have used demur, and if I’d tried solving 2R first, I’d probably have used frill. For that matter, had I not solved 4R before trying 3R, I have little doubt that I’d have played funky rather than hunky.
In other words, disaster was averted by judicious consideration of the order in which to solve …

These were like little dominoes, with any alternatives falling away as I went along. Finished this one quickly, compared to yesterday.
Probably my most useful solve was #6 as I looked at it and thought.. come on now, can't be that hard, what could it be? And the answer came to me. It solved #1 & #7 instantly. I had previously been looking at #4 and wondering canal, banal and then thought, aha, no C, so it is not canal. But then I looked again and thought, hang on, no B either, back to the drawing board. But it was an old fav so not hard.

This wasn't too bad either. The surprise word in this one (for me) was hunky, as I had that space tagged initially as maybe bunch/punch or munch. Getting a K exposed turned all that in its head.
The only risk was at the end where it could have been krill, but I had to choose one to try first and on this occasion, it worked out for me.

Today's octordles were a breeze. Flew through them in record time, without any palpitations or hesitation really.
I was lucky though in that my first turn in both cases exposed a fair few letters. Not enough to feel confident in solving immediately on turn 2, but I felt I was off to a good start.

The possible solutions were bunny, funny, punny. Conceivably it could also have been dunny, but it’s such an Australian bit of informality that I ruled it out.
