WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I think my days of getting it in 3 are gone.

Every day is a new day. I haven't had a grey first line for a few days. No doubt I'll get one tomorrow. As long as we get it, who cares if it takes 4 or 6 guesses? A few on my facebook have failed in the last few days. I don't want to be one of them. If it takes 6 goes, I'm happy with that!

I deliberately did not use the green letter of my second guess in my third guess, in order to increase my chances of guessing right letters, wrong positions. It paid off. After line 3, I had only one letter outstanding, and the word was obvious.

today's wordle is a word I am familiar with through my work.  Other half is stuck at first two letters + one in wrong place.

Don't ask me how, I don't know. I was looking at the blank boxes, trying to think of an obscure word. Complete, utter fluke. That said, the word with "ing" on the end was mentioned a few times at work today. Go figure!

Apparently if you go through the NY times page for it now, not everyone gets the same word each day. That kind of spoils the fun a bit I think. I like that we are all guessing for the same word. You can still go through the UK site for now, but they are saying it will be shut down.

Today’s word was so so so so close to my starting word that it boggles the mind.

The one blank tile (wrong letter) could have been a few different letters. Six possibilities sprang to mind. Rather than go fishing for that one letter by guessing “the word”, I thought of one 5-letter word containing 3 of the letter options, and another 5-letter word containing 2 further letter options. Worst-case scenario, I’d then guess the correct answer on the 5th try; best-case scenario, I would have it on the 3rd try.

As it happened, the first of my “find that letter” guesses gave me the elusive letter, and I was able to have the answer in 3 goes.

I was preparing myself for my first fail to solve as there were still a few options for those elusive first 2 places.

Great tactic countess, I'll keep that in mind for future wordles.
