WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I didn't have a lucky start as the green alone didn't cut down the guesses enough. (wordle bot later told me there were 35 possible solutions. I had no idea how many, I just knew I needed a general eliminator as I didn't have a clue.)

Even after that, I was still unsure so I tried yet a third general word. That gave me what I needed.

I did have to laugh as wordlebot told me off for my 3rd word-said I should have known from previous guesses that it wasn't a possible solution. I did, but wordlebot himself tried a word for turn 2 that was not a possible solution, so he should talk!

Position of letters is important in the RH word. I was all set to play that word but I decided to use an eliminator for LH word first. It was just as well I did; the eliminator revealed not only revealed the only remaining possibility for the LH word, but also showed that the RH word couldn’t be what I’d thought it was. Just one letter’s difference… in terms of its position…

I get quite a lot of enjoyment from your interactions with the word bot. There’s nothing like that with my word bot; perhaps the computer version is chattier than the phone version? (Assuming that they’re different… otherwise the word bot I encounter is just not inclined to express very much to me.)

Anyway, here’s my Quordle - and it was very successful today. Anything better than 7 rows is a particularly pleasing result.

I do paraphrase the bot a bit.😁

I was telling my sister in law about the bot and she has an ipad. She swore there was no bot but I found it for her. It showed pretty much the same as my computer bot (except they were for her answers, of course)

I tried on the phone once when I was staying at my daughter's but can't get it to show at all on a phone as it says I need to pay a subscription fee for the NY times.

Anyway, on to today's triumph.

I was almost just going to go with a second eliminator word but I stopped and tried to calculate what possible words it could be. I couldn't think of many at all (just had about 3 in mind) so I just had a go and was lucky.

Bot had very little to say today. He is far more chatty when I get it wrong or make what he calls a poor guess. That's probably why you don't hear much from him as probably your guesses are closer to the mark & that shuts him up.😃

He implied I was very lucky as there were 17 possible answers today. I hadn't realised that or I would not have been so quick to dive in with a guess. Sometimes ignorance is bliss! 😁

 Bot thinks his pick of crams was much better as it presumably would have cut down the possibilities better but I had not even thought of crams.

I was pleased with this today as there were no wrong guesses at all. The reason for the score is probably because I started with 3 eliminators and only began to solve from  turn 4. But I didn't miss any from then on.

I was happy enough with this. After my first turn, I decided to go with an eliminator I often put in 3rd place, just so I could try to get some direction with consonants & it helped a lot.

Bot isn't overly impressed. He is telling me that as far as skill goes, I scored 81 out of 99 and the average score of other users was 83. It was all down to luck as my guesses eliminated more words than expected, I scored 85 while the av was 55.

According to bot, we should all start with slate. That's the 99 score every day.

Only so-so today. Couple of wrong guesses. One was right near the end on #4. I knew it was between two starting letters but went with the wrong one first. Just lucky I had another turn left.
