I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I gave in today. I thought... Bot is always telling me to start with slate, it's a real winner. Nothing is as good as slate as a starter, I have been told that numerous times. Today I will please him.
And he was pleased, said it was a wonderful start. None better, according to him. Exactly what he would have done.
But you know what? I think I would have been better off using my usual 2 starters, I would have had a much better chance of solving it in 3 as I would have had 4 letters instead of 3 and 2 of them in place. It would not have been a sure thing but I think I may have guessed it quicker.

Octordle, I was reasonably happy with. I did make one wrong guess but it was at least possible & did help out quite a bit in a couple of other squares with a more unusual letter.
Oops forgot to show it.

Oh, the reluctant woebegone tone in your e-voice! It sounds as though the bot kept saying “Go on, just this once…”

I used TRACE, and followed that with HOUND. The bot couldn’t help but agree, but I could tell (spinning this story a little in the interests of drama and a good dénouement) that it was fuming underneath and hoping I wouldn’t guess the solution in row 3.

I sacrificed vowel knowledge for consonant knowledge in row 2: it paid off.
My starter was CATER, and this left me with only one possible choice for the LH word.

Only the battle between F and P stopped me from winning this in 6.
My starter was STARE, followed by MOUND.

I started with STARE, and for row 3 I used LINGO.

This was about dordle but it struck a chord with me as I did the same thing in today's wordle.
I don't know that it paid off directly, but it paid off a lot on eliminating possible answers.

Bot told me confidently that if he had started with my first word, he could have solved it faster (in 3.6 turns). When the game allows me 0.6 of a turn, I will call us even!😁
He quite liked my second word but he had a word suggestion he fancied more. Of course.
And my third, he said I just got lucky and if the answer had been something else, I would have been stuck.

I was sort of surprised with the first word. I tried something close but it wasn't it.
With quordle, I wasn't feeling any vibes even after the first 2 words so i just went straight into another eliminator. That helped.
By the time I got to the last word at the bottom right, therer were not that many good letters to choose from. The answer was all i could think of, in any case. No doubt if Bot had been on the job, he would have pointed out a few more. 😂

I was going okay but #7 almost defeated me.
I thought I had a good idea what it was but it wasn't (why was I surprised?)
So I tried something else that I didn't like but couldn't see what else it could be. Wrong again, though the technique was on the right track.
