WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I have to say, the first word gave me pause. After my 6th turn, I had the placement for letters 1 & 3.

I also knew there was a T in it that could not go on spot 5. There was no way it was going to be in spot 2 so that left  spot 4, but the trouble was, I could figure out what was probably in spot 2 but I had to go through the entire alphabet, one by one, to figure out what could go at the end.

Once I worked it out, I felt stupid as it has been out before.

I got off the straight and narrow and went for a different eliminator at turn 2, one that I thought contained more of the letters in possible answers. I found it wonderfully helpful, actually.

Bot wasn't keen at all, though he grudgingly admitted it had cut the possible answers down to one so I should get it next turn.😁

I think you’re referring to 1L…? Where something is, in effect, on the blink? Yes? I’d probably have tried the word ending in H for that, but I’d knocked H out of the running in my 4th turn. I had no other letter choice than the actual letter.

I started with TRACE, and followed that with SPINY. After that, 3R fell right into my lap, and 4L couldn’t be anything else. (“H” first appearance.)

2R… I could see at least two possibilities there if I assumed that the vowel was repeated. If it wasn’t, there was one possibility so… I went for it. Luckily I was right.

I now had all of 1L except for one letter, so that was that.

Of course, that gave me 2L.

I also attended to 4R which I’d known for the last 3 moves.

3L - known as a result of 4R (because it gave me the first letter in a multiple choice situation).

And finally … 1R. There was only one letter to find, and from the remaining letters I had there was only one possibility.

The usual 5. I started with TRACE and followed with DOING, which gave me the RH word, but left me with nothing further with which to solve LH word. I made a guess which eliminated many possibles at least.

I started with my usual but tried guessing from turn 2 onwards.

I probably would have been as well off using my other 2 eliminators after turn 1.

I would still have taken 4 turns though because the answer has some consonants that aren't in my usual first 2 guesses.

I used TRACE as my starter. I thought I might as well make a guess… and it was correct.

Peevishly, the bot said it was a bit of a lucky guess. Well, yes, luck does play its part - sometimes good, sometimes bad. The point was… the bot didn’t solve it in 2 guesses. Mwah ha ha…

That’s a bit disappointing, considering that my starter TRACE gave me a tremendously good beginning with 4R.  I did have to use an eliminator at row 3 and also at row 7… oh well.

Ah well, look on the bright side, at least you didn't score 68 and miss one!! 😅
