I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

TRACE was a very good starter for this. I did need an eliminator at row 3 but that was all.

Straightforward, with my most frequent starter in place and a very serviceable eliminator giving me all I needed to solve this.

CATER to start… SPOIL as eliminator… I’m still only getting it in 7.

On reflection, I would have been better off just using my usual 2 starters.
I decided to try to narrow it down on my second turn but had I used my usual, I would (probably) have got it in 3. Them's the breaks!

Even after 11 turns, I still only had one letter for number 7, then I went and tried gamma, which was wrong! 😐

I started with TRACE and used one of the eliminators in my “Eliminator Word Chest”.
The frustrating thing is that I couldn’t access the bot today without creating an account. I don’t want a NYT account and I won’t be creating one. So… the bot and I are saying goodbye to each other.

I started with CATER, and I could see only one word (an informal one) as the solution for 2L. Well, it was right, but I wasn’t enlightened by that for any further words. I had to use an eliminator. It did help, to the extent that I found the rest of the words guessable.
3R could have had a different first letter than the one I played… but I was lucky.
After that, I knew which of two possibilities 3L must be. I also knew 4L, to which I’d attend shortly… but I really wanted to solve 4R first as that would help me with 1L.
4R could have had a different 4th letter; again, I was lucky.
I could now solve 1L (from two choices).
I was left with 2L and only two green letters revealed. Judging by the remaining letters, I suspected repeat usage, and this guided my guess.
