WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

CRATE as my starter… SHINY as my first eliminator… This wasn’t an easy Octordle. By the time I’d guessed my way to the final word, I was exhausted. Wrong final guess as well.

One green with my starter of TRACE didn’t get me very far… but at least I could narrow down the final letter and rule out or in another vowel. My eliminator was SHULN.

The third row was still a guess re first letter. There were at least 5 possibilities… plus another possibility for the vowel. I did guess correctly, but how often does this not come down to luck!?

Frustrating.

It would have even worse had I not decided that this Octordle was out to torture me, and would therefore reuse a letter when there were other likelier letters there.

Happy little Bot today.

Told me I was extremely lucky with my first turn and that my second word was exactly what he would have chosen and I had no reason to miss it on my next turn.

I've just had a bit of a shock. I thought I was up early but at a reasonable time of 5am and the computer is showing some unearthly time with a 3 at the front. I thought my computer might have troubles but then realised it is the daylight saving change kicking in.

Bit of a quirky octordle today.

The one that I found trickiest was #7. After 2 turns, I had 4 of the letters & 2 of those were in place.

Should be easy, I thought.

The 2 yellows that were left had a logical spot but at first I couldn't see how that would work. But I couldn't get it to work any othr way either so I went back to the original premise and got it in the end.

Ah, daylight savings, that contentious little exercise …

You had a great Wordle result today!

My starter CATER wasn’t as helpful, but thankfully I used LINGO as my 2nd row eliminator.

I used a very different starter today, for a change. I followed up with one of my rarer eliminators. This can work well when Octordle uses a wider field of letters… and it did work today.

IVORY followed with BEAUS. I used brute logic to solve 1L and 1R, and because 1R had revealed the initial letter of 3R, I knew that its second letter must be a vowel. It could only be a repeat of an already uncovered vowel, and that gave me the word.

Bottom right (4R) showed 3 yellow and its final green letter; there were two obvious possibilities but I went for the one with an as-yet unplayed letter, and was right.

The rest followed smoothly enough.

Springy, when you say #7, which do you mean? I refer to my words like this:

1L 1R

2L 2R

3L 3R

4L 4R

#7 would be 4L.

The second last one you look at. My screen on computer goes across but I know the phone screen goes down so it would be in the final double box. I remember the word was sooth.

I haven't done octordle today but wordle is finished.

I didn't have a lot of luck till my 3rd turn, which I felt helped confirm the suspected pattern, but of course  Bot wasn't happy with the choice.

CATER and DOUGH were my starter and first eliminator. They ruled out many possibilities and I had a gut feeling about the pattern.
