WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I got 3 for yesterday's wordle, just wasn't home & .. I still need a new phone. Did I ever mention I am a bit of a procrastinator?

Today. The answer jumped out at me after my first 2 turns but I thought.. slow down, think if there are other possibilities. There were & I decided to go with one of them. Grrr.

Couple of early mistakes. Should have just stuck to 3 first words as eliminators and I would have been better off. Not a particularly tricky one, I just tried guessing too soon.

Back to 52. My starter TRACE was followed with HOUND.

TRACE didn’t give me much at all: one yellow in 1R, a green in 2L and a yellow in 2R, a yellow in 3L and 2 greens in 3R, and 2 yellows in 4L.

HOUND at least gave me the shape of 2L, but I still had 3 possible letters for 1st position. I had to guess - and being aware of which of the three words had appeared most frequently was helpful.

I also knew 3R.

Solving 3R also hinted me towards 1L.

I now had most of 4L, and only needed the final letter. 4R became obvious after that.

3L - it was the initial letter... either this or that. I made my guess and it was right.

2R - initial letter again, but this one was obvious.

And finally 1R - would you believe it? Initial letter! Solved that, and voilà.

That 3rd word was purely an eliminator. It left me with a couple of options and of course I went with the wrong one first. Of course.😂

Oh boy, this was double letter day!

My score could have been slightly better had I gone with my instinct for #1.

We know how well that usually works out though, don't we!

The trouble was, I only had 2 yellows for it and I could think of several possible answers. So I went for an eliminator & that made the way clear.

My starter was TRACE, and my 2nd row eliminator was POUND. 

Things were proceeding in orderly fashion until row 9, when I made a guess at 1L - JAZZY. It wasn’t correct: grrrr. Ah well, i played the alternative BAGGY.

After that, there was only one possibility for 2R.

 I fancied baggy, although gabby was the first word I thought of. But at the end, I only had A & Y, so I figured it could be gabby, baggy, gawky or jazzy. Maybe even mammy, but that was on my 'unlikely' list. I was drawn to gawky too, only as it didn't have double letters & I was thinking-surely there wouldn't be another double letter word.

I was surprised to get such a low score as I didn't start solving till turn 3 then made a mistaken with my guess at turn 8.
