I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

TRACE did well as my starter. The bot nodded approvingly (but you know that I don’t seek to please the bot which I think is blinkered and occasionally drunk and certainly smug).
The bot also lauded my 2nd row eliminator, but as long as I’m pleased that I have made good word choices, that’s all I need in Wordle!

Oh, this was extremely satisfying!
Once I’d played my starter TRACE and followed with my eliminator LOUGH, I had enough to start guessing. The words were not obvious but they were possible to work out as highly likely or as the only solution I could determine.
Then I came to the final word in 2R. Oh-oh, a few possibilities… But … (see spoiler)

Your Wordle went beautifully. Were you able to access the bot’s feedback using Chrome?

I was doing reasonably well with this but needed an eliminator at turn 7. It wasn't that I had no ideas, the problem was I had too many possibilities.
It helped but I did get caught by #5
SpoilerI tried leaky instead of mealyI was also kicking myself on #4. All along, I had had a word in mind as a possibility but I didn't want to jump in. Then at the last moment I saw another possibility that I thought might be more likely so went with that.
SpoilerFirst word that I thought of was rover, but then I thought... maybe cover.
Ah, yes, your #5… By the time I got to that word, I’d already ruled out the letter that you used in 4th position, and had the initial letter.
And your #4… you fell for Octordle’s sneaky manoeuvre.
But any result where you beat Octordle in total is worth it!

After my 3rd word, I had an answer in mind but I realised there were in fact 2 different letters I could put in 3rd spot. I went with my inclination and luckily, it worked out but this wordle could just as easily have taken me 5 turns to solve.

Octordle was quite interesting today because the order of words you see in the results is not the actual order I solved them in my head (and on paper).

After my second turn, I looked at #8 and #1 and had fair ideas of what they probably were (although #1 had an alternative)
And from early on, I had 2 possibilities for #2 & I left it, hoping one of the other answers would sort it, but no such luck. Of coruse, I tried the wrong one first!
But the most interesting one here out of them all is #4 (your 2R).
Aha, shades of Wordle, I thought. I was in exactly the same dilemma early on as I had been with wordle so left it but luckily in this case, solving #1 sorted that one out eventually.
But what's the likelihood of those words occurring randomly in the games? These game makers definitely work together or pinch ideas or are the same people.

This didn’t feel quite as satisfying as yesterday’s Octordle but there were no stops or hesitations, etc. I started with TRACE followed by LOUGH, then had at the first word 1L. One green and two yellows - made a guess - and we were off.
Ah. I see what you mean, springyzone - 2R might have been the Wordle word, except that I’d already played a certain letter in 1L so I knew it wasn’t used elsewhere.

It took a while for me to feel the inspiration, but from turn 6 onwards, it was smooth sailing.
