WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

In fact, not quite as good a position as yesterday as although I had all the same letters, no greens today.

I had a feeling (maybe illogical) that the answer would at least not start with F, simply because yesterday's did.

My first 2 turns were a bit underwhelming, with nothing a sure thing.

So I had to wade in with a 3rd eliminator. There goes any chance of a good score!

Then later I made a mistake on #3. Oh well, better score than yesterday at least.

I am very happy with this score personally but feel you may be able to get it down to the 40s.

Several of the answers are ones that  are what I would term learned behaviours. Had I never played much octordle, I may have been scratching my head over a couple of them, but they are what I consider some of the quirky favourites the makers fall back on.

I did solve a word at turn 2 and on reflection, I did have enough to solve #4 but went for another eliminator instead, so that was stupid of me!

But a lot of repeat fav words in this game!

I hadn’t a hope of getting a score lower than 52. My starter wasn’t as helpful as yours would have been, springyzone. It wasn’t until after my eliminator that I had so much as a wisp of solving any of the words.

A few highlights (or lowlights):

For 4R: I had ruled out another T (see 1R) and a B (see 2L), so it had to be the Americanism, TAFFY.

3R: GOLEM is such an interesting word. I leapt upon that solution with a chuckle.

2R - it could have been CLASS or CLASP or (less likely because they’re plurals) CLAPS or CLAWS.

Hmm.

My starter was less than ideal for this particular Wordle. I did have a lucky eliminator but it still left me with 3 possibilities. A 33⅓ chance of hitting the correct word on row 3… 

Fortune smiled. It could easily have jeered at me.

You know, I probably should have got this in 2, had I been reckless enough.

The word that proved to be the answer popped into my head after my first turn, probably because of the 2 yellows in order.

Even when I got further down towards the end, there were a couple of squares here where I still had several possibilities so i felt I needed another eliminator.

I also made a mistake earlier on. A possible answer, just not the right one.

So all in all, probably lucky to get 60 today.

And #8, could it be pager, caper, waver. Finally got pager crossed off the list but in the end, tried cower as eliminator.
