I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

More familiar “faces”… and yet it doesn’t make it easier, as I persist in thinking “It can’t be that again”.

Octordle, I started off really well, then stuffed the last word. There was only one letter in it. I had the choice of 2 words. Oh well!

The 2 was a nice piece of luck!
So… Octordle. I took my time over this. There were at least four words that have popped up before.

The last word (top right) could have been one of two possibles. It was the second possible answer.

The word on the right … well, there were 3 possibilities left after I got word #1. I bumped off the possibilities with an elimination word.

My usual first word yielded very good results. I was left with four possible words, as there was only one possible vowel that would work. That still left me with 4 possible consonants. I used a word containing three of those possible letters, and the result was all black. I knew that the one possible consonant not in that second line must be the right letter… and so it was.

Does anyone know what the clock symbols are for, instead of an actual number?
on 30-03-2022 12:39 PM
They are there to dignify numbers, because the blue number blocks only go up to 10. Therefore the creators of the game had to come up with an alternative way to signify 11, 12, and 1 - with the clock/time… 11 (o’clock), 12 (o’clock), 1 (o’clock)…

3 is good.
Today’s two-hours-after-midnight Wordle took me 4 guesses.
I’d counted out the vowel situation through absence rather than presence, but was left with quite a few different word possibilities. I needed to eliminate consonants with élan and in as few moves as possible! So… I decided on a third word that would contain the 4 main consonants whose tile situation I needed to resolve.
That word contained a vowel that I’d already eliminated. I had a choice of two (other) vowel possibilities for the actual answer but for various reasons I was discounting one. Could I be making a mistake? Hmmm… possible. I’d have loved to confirm my vowel decision. But the consonants were key!
I forged ahead with my third word containing 4 possible consonants to resolve the riddle. It gave me the information I needed. I narrowed my eyes and leapt upon the only likely answer. I was right!
