I recently stumbled across WORDLE online. For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.
https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:
Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though). Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words. I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts. Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

I started with shout because I figured alien had so many letters in a few spots yesterday, that they may ring the changes today. But no such luck, slim pickings indeed.
So second was alien.
Third I went with pricy because it has useful letters plus #2 was going to be either theta or thera as far as I could see and pricy would solve that question for me.
Made a couple of mistakes along the way.
black instead of flack
bilby instead of billy. All the way along, I was thinking billy, but at the end, I thought they are both 'aussie' sorts of words and bilby might be better. Wrong.

Ah, I see you fell into the _lack trap. It’s a tricky one.
#2 - yes, that famous Greek letter. Any Octordler will quickly suspect it!

The shape possibilities seemed clear - so I had to confirm or rule out the most likely letters that would fit the patterns.

I suspected fable, maple, eagle, etc, but also angle, apple, ample and so on. Those were my two main lines of enquiry. I toyed with an eliminator such as flump, but decided to zero in on the n, g and l instead.
It could still have been algae - either would have been a plausible answer.

This worked out okay although i have to admit, I would never have guessed #1 excerpt for the fact that

It was an exhausting Christmas… especially the driving. Three + hours up, three + hours back… and I was already so tired that I had to pull over for 5 10-minute power naps on the way up.
But it was lovely to be there with family.

Six hours of driving! Must have been exhausting. I heard it was very busy on the roads yesterday too. Glad you had a good time wwith family though, I wondered what you would be doing and hoped you weren't on your own.

Things started poorly & even after turn 2 there were no definite answers, even though 2 spots had 4 exposed letters.
I suspected #2 would be ratio or patio and #8 would be spout/scout/stout but for turn 3 I went for another eliminator, crypt. I would have been better with pricy, which I usually use these days.
Then I was so excited to get c and so solve #8 that I forgot to even check #2, I w3as convinced #1 was upper/ Wrong. Could have had #2 solved that turn but nope, delayed till turn 6.
Then another eliminator, bumfs, which helped a lot but meant I ran out of spots to solve #4. I knew from early on it was either taunt/vaunt or jaunt but no idea which one.
