WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

When it came to the final word, there was a 3-way dilemma. Another eliminator seemed sensible.

I came on especially tonight to do the word games and really, I wish I hadn't.

Let's just say I didn't exactly shine.😂

Wordle was okay.

After the first 2 turns, the answer was the only word I could think of. Perhaps there are dozens of other possibilities but I was oblivious in any case.

Half way through, I felt I needed another eliminator.

Spoiler
4 cl.jpgI was stuck on #7, sure it was between drain and brain. Getting G surprised me, hadn't even thought of that!
And #1, I was tossing up relax or relay. #3, heady or heavy, or maybe beach or peach
By the end, I couldn't decide on calve or valve but went with valve & got lucky. I thought it was a 50/50 chance.

I don't know where my brains went begging with this one.

I don't mind for myself, but I know it would be more fun for you if you could see some decent results sometimes, into the 40s etc. Rarely happens with me.

My first hurdle was getting stuck after turn 3 and I decided purge would be a good eliminator. I forget exactly why, but I do recall #8 just had too many possibilities-stare/spate/stave/stage etc

My next move was the definition of stupidity, but I looked in glee at #3 and thought wowee, I have all the letters except 4th spot. I don't know why I thought that, I am not colour blind, but anyway I thought aha, I know what that is and quickly typed in puree.
So confident was I that I did not even look at the result and got a shock later to see #3 was still unsolved.
Then I saw what i had done, but too late, damage was done.

Final word: I did actually wonder about starting with re. But then thought-demur. Wrong.

I am a bit worried about my brain this morning, I was up super late having fun, working on a photobook and then I didn't sleep well when I finally toddled off. I feel fine but I had trouble waking to the alarm & am wondering if I am a bit foggy. Anyway, it is a warning to take extra care driving today!

Or maybe I just rushed things in the classic octordle.

Okay, I got through but...

Spoiler
5 cl.jpgI felt like I needed a 3rd eliminator with either b/d & r in it, and thought birdy as y often pops up as well.
Would you believe birdy is not recognised as a word? but bardy is. I had been thinking broth/froth for #4 so it saved me there.
But in #1 I tried stare and I don't know why. I had no A and the answer above it showed e in 4th place.
Then I 'corrected' it with stear. A waste of 2 turns. You'd think I'd be alert after the first mistake but I wasn't.

Now you're probably thinking.. well, she took a bit more care with this one at least, but this worries me too.

Spoiler
5 ex.jpgObviously after the classic, it was my warning to slow down and pay a bit more attention. I took a risk on #5 because I thought, what have I got to lose, I have already wrecked things this morning. clean or glean-glean seems more of the unusual one so I'll go with that.
But what worries me is turn 4. By then I had run out of ideas so went for shout.
Here's the thing though. I had absolutely no idea it was actually an answer till the very end when I was looking at the score and glancing at the answers. I saw shout there and thought.. what?
My only excuse is I don't pay attention to the solved ones much, only the ones I still need to work on. All the same, I was going slowly so it worries me I didn't notice.
Normally I would be excited with a 44, but not today.

Oh no! That sneaky “ made you think it was purée” manoeuvre… I did have a purée moment myself, for a nanosecond.

I knew “demur” was out of the running because of “mound”… otherwise, yes, it would have lured me into its clutches.
