WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

There was one tricky bit, but most of this was as simple as Simon the pieman.

2R was a potential trap; I was hugely tempted to try “filch” quite early on, but it could also be zilch or milch… so I left it until last. When I solved 4R (elfin), of course it came down to zilch or milch. The latter seemed less likely in Octordle.

I needed the eliminator to start limiting the field.

After the eliminator, it could have been a _OOED pattern. Booed, mooed, pooed, wooed.

Or E_O__ hmm, can only see epoxy and ebook.

Or _OOEY … gooey, hooey.

I really doubt it’s pooed! I also don’t think it’s hooey.

If pushed, I’d also be less inclined to use a past tense verb, but it isn’t ruled out exactly…

Using a y-ending would rule out the _OOED words…

GOOEY or EPOXY were my top choices. Gooey would rule out more options if my guess were wrong.

This had me laughing.

'I really doubt it was pooed'.

You were so right, they never go for anything the least bit unsavoury.

These are Americans, remember.

It's the same if you are playing a spot that could be pitch, ditch, witch, you have the satisfaction of at least knowing the B will not be in play.

hooey would be an outside contender and thankfully one I didn't have to consider.

I was a bit reckless with the first word… reckless but lucky. I could continue without an eliminator I made a wrong guess at the final word. 🥺

Still - not bad… not bad at all.

So I knew it had an E and S
I was thinking verse, messy, pesky, press, dress and so on.
My 3rd word was messy. At least it solved the dilemma of whether there was a Y or not.

I still had not had any light bulb moment so tried fudge as eliminator.
