WALEED ALY GRILLED MALCOLM TURNBULL OVER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FUNDING

Waleed Aly's blistering editorial on the level of funding and attention the Government pays to the prevention and support of Domestic Violence in Australia was a sobering and extremely important in-depth look at the issue - the likes of which is rarely seen on Australian broadcast television, much less the free-to-air networks.

Not content to simply file the report and move on with the regular to-ings and fro-ings of the show, Aly continued his push on the subject on The Project last night, grilling Communications MinisterMalcolm Turnbull in the Liberal MPs post-Budget appearance.

Mr Aly lists his religion as sunni muslim.

The Qur'an:

Qur'an (4:34) - "Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great." Contemporary translations sometimes water down this word, but it is the same one used in verse 8:12 and clearly means 'to strike'.

Qur'an (38:44) - "And take in your hand a green branch and beat her with it, and do not break your oath..."  Allah telling Job to beat his wife

Next week The Project will feature a special studio guest. Ivan Milat will talk about his intention to start up a company that takes back-packers on guided tours of the Bangalo State Forest.

Hugh Hefner has demonstrated by his own behaviour that he has no respect for women.

And that proves my point. Whether you own a flesh empire or you have a user manual that downplays the role of women you have no credibility when commenting on certain issues.

Has Waleed Aly ever demonstrated by his own behaviour that he has no respect for women?

Nor is there any mention in the bible that believers will be given permission to depart from it's teachings in 2015 or any other year.

It stands to reason if one religion is allowed to evolve so are other religions.

But you said I rely on assumptions which you know is not the case.

Yes, you did.  You assumed that because Aly is muslim he must believe it's ok to beat up women and therefore has no right to comment on domestic violence.  You assume that muslims in 2015 follow a "user manual" that promotes violence against women.

None of your comments about Aly are fact. They are all assumptions based on your own perceptions.

Aly has no wriggle room. That is of course if he's a muslim. Maybe he just says he is to get attention.

Can you show me in that text where it says: 4:34 does not apply if your surname starts with 'A' or if you live in Australia?

Maybe the translation Waleed Aly uses "waters down"  this word.

No.  "Guilt assumed".

Would you use the same logic to argue that a Cathoilc doctor has no moral right to prescribe the contraceptive pill to his patients?

You're assuming he lives his life according to the ancient literal interpretation of the Koran.   If we accept that Christians do not live by the original scriptures why can we not accept the same of muslims?

Waleed was born in Australia, grew up in Australia, and does not appear to be at all medieval or uncivilised.  He has spoken out against domestic violence and has no reason to lie about his belief that there is no place for deomestic violence in a civilised society.
