There was a young man wearing the flag as a cape in the cafe where we had lunch yesterday. We all thought it was very inappropriate. Your national flag is not an item of clothing.

I look forward to the day when Australia Day is a celebration for ALL Australians. Hopefully, the date will change once we become a Republic or when the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are finally recognised in the constitution. Or, even simply because it is the right thing to do.
I am glad that my forebears came to Australia and feel fortunate that I call this country home but celebrating the beginning of the disenfranchisement and genocide of the traditional custodians of this land is something that I find hard to do.
