I saw this posted on my Facebook page. So much for his promise to stop the boats. Seems like we might have a few more landing on our shores now.
SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES: There could be an influx of asylum seekers in the wake of Australia’s spying scandal.
A senior Indonesian immigration official has apparently told local media he will no longer take measures to stop asylum seekers trying to reach our waters.
We’ll bring you full political coverage tonight in our evening bulletin on Channel 9.

At least they can stop pretending they want to help us, now.

Why do you keep crucifying Tony Abbott for what happened under Kevin Rudds watch ?. Tony Abbott has to fix another problem caused by KRudd and his cronies and when will it stop.
I don't see Kevin Rudd rushing back from whereever he is to assist in solving this catastrophe, he has his head up his proverbial laughing his head off at the terrible mess greated while HE was PM.
I think Tony Abbott is being very diplomatic and strong, we cant just apologise for something that SBY is upset about when the Indonesians do the same thing.
We don't burn their flag, we don't threaten to hurt Indonesians in Australia, the difference is we are a better overall educated people who don't threaten violence at the drop of a hat because our ego is a bit bruised.
I will never visit there again.

They have never tried to stop the boats before, so what are they talking about?
It is all politics before their election to make their people believe what good caretakers they are.
Why bring up the subject of spying now? They have known about it when KR was PM.

The ABC news and The Guardian (au version) published the spying/tapping issue this month, even though they had known about it for a long time.

There is a lot of politics involved ( Indonesian elections in 2014) so thus a lot of "noise" and breast beating, whilst at the local level the quiet from the ALP would be indicitive of when the monitoring occurred (and obviously who authorised it)
I dug this up:
The Age June 6, 2005 Michael McKinley
So who is spying on Australia and what are they after?
That depends what they are looking for, says McKinley. “This is a reasonably open country and a lot of what you want can be got from the newspapers.”
In the Cold War days, Russia’s big spy network in Australia was mainly interested in picking up, indirectly, important intelligence that had been passed on to Australian agencies by its allies, the US or Britain.
And in an extraordinary claim last year, Indonesia’s retiring intelligence chief, General Abdullah Mahmud Hendropriyono, said his country bugged Australia's embassy in Jakarta during the East Timor crisis and had tried to recruit Australians as spies.
He said his agency tapped Australian civil and military communications and politician's phone calls.
Caused hardly a ripple back then, whilst now: a lot of opportunist political stirring and crocodile outrage (tears).

You obviously have absolutely no idea how these sorts of things work. Such issues are always decided with the opposition present and with their agreement. So it does not matter who was in government at that time. In any case they all spied before and after, and no doubt are spying on each other now.
TA was not diplomatic about anything, at anytime; he is incapable of being diplomatic. Yes, of course there is another agenda. The Indonesians have no interest in stopping the boats, actually they would just love to load all the refugees in their country and send them on to us. Therefore it needed very careful handling to get their cooperation; instead the LNP government just made demands and announced policies without first negotiating with Indonesia. People over there are outraged at the way TA and JB took for granted that they only have to say "jump" and their government will ask how high. Indonesia does not need us half as much as we need them.

NS,that might be the best thing actually ...bring back our former Gov't to do the duties of our current Government.
Tony Abbott has said he supports our past Governments in measures taken to protect it's people and will do so in the future too.
