I know quite a few of us have family and friends in NZ. Everyone ok?
I just had messages from 2 of my nieces who live in Welly. They both spent time yesterday in doorways and under tables. They have been told not to go into work in the city today until everything is checked out.

My ex SIL lives not far from Wellington, she seems fine.
Earthquakes are nothing new in NZ though - I remember several before leaving the country at age 20.

Yeah, this one seems a bit more serious than usual though. I suppose they are all a wee bit more on edge after Christchurch.
Do you remember earthquake drill at school? All the kids diving under their desks

I sure do. Many a time I scrambled into the doorframe of my bedroom during a bad tremour as well.
I also remember being in Circular Quay train station when the Newcastle earthquake hit. I realy wasn't worried at all until my boyfriend pointed out that there was a freeway over our heads and Australia doesn't have earthquake building codes.

The earthquakes I felt when living in NZ were scary, but little or no damage to property or great loss of lives from earthquakes in recent years before 2011.
There was a bad one in Inangahua, West Coast when I was a child, we saw the after effects from that one when passing by on holiday not long after it.
After the big ones in Christchurch, people would no doubt be thinking is this going to turn out that bad now when they feel a tremor.
