Domestic violence can have just as serious impacts on men as on women .

Just because it is not talked about on here as much as the impact on women, that is no reason to suggest rabbit was using it as a 'means to distract'

That these boards are largely 'matriarchal' or because men have greater psychological barriers to admitting they are the 'victim' is no reason not to raise it .  Just look around the boards and you will see demonstrations of incessent nagging by women .

Not all domestic violence leads to murder althought the results can be almost as devastaing - for both women and men .

Totally agree, and thats why I posted earlier ( see post 16)

Domestic Violence is not gender specific.

The topic is What do you Call Domestic Violence...if we could have a discussion on that, it might help both genders.

That is sad, Joanie. Sometimes you need to distance yourself from family if they are bad for your health. I hope that you get your fresh start soon. Is there anywhere that you can move to where your gender wouldn't be an issue and the police are kinder?

thanks, but aside from my dad, there is no issue with my gender. people seem to automaticly take me for the woman i am. it's really the only upside to this whole (for lack of a better term) life being turned upside down thing. being in a new place where all people know of me is what they hear and see now.

That's awful PH and scary. I hope that the Magistrate does more than give him a rap over the knuckles. Is your daughter getting support from a DV support service?

She is moving out on saturday, she is going to share a house with my daughter, this person does not know my daughter nor does he know where she lives.

Sol Elizabeth and her baby son, should be okay......

AVO's...........are as good as useless..........yes, she is getting support, she will be okay.

Every time I have read threads about domestic violence on these boards I've read the same old "it happens to men too" from the same old posters, one of whomk speaks about his wife as if she is the devil in dusguise.

Yes, some men experience a level of domestic violence but rarely are they killed, rarely are they hospitalised and usually they have more easy means of escape.

Women are the most affected and are more likely to be abused than their male partners.

If rabbit is the victim of domestic violence he should change the situation and change his sexist attitude instead of just having a go at women whenever the topic arises.  There are plenty of people who live in his area that would be willing to help him if he needs to escape from the violence.

34 deaths of women so far this year, that is exactly 2 each week

Yes, but who cares about that, They're only women. Let's save our pity for those poor abused males who might be driven to murder their so called nagging wives.

Of course, there's always the other side to what we normally think of - a winging, abusive wife. One for whom Nothing is EVER right.

Abusive? You really should take some action, marriage counselling, psychologist.... something..... before it ends in tragedy. No one deserves to be abused but whinging won't really hurt us.

From memory, your spouse has some health issues that might be a contributing factor, not an excuse as such but a reason. Your GP can arrange some free or low cost psych sessions for her.

I rarely read them and have never contributed in one until now .

As youcan said domestic violence is not gender specific and neither is this thread

Your' 'opinions' are yours and mine are just as valid and do not warrant the sarcasm exhibited subsequently !

I am sure it will continue from the 'same old posters' (to use your expression) though

As I said, not all domestic violence results in murder thankfully but the psychological impact can be almost as devastating - both for men AND women !

Thanks for the answers.  I have a new friend who I think is living in a DV situation,  I am now trying to decide how to act towards him ( he also uses the bully boy tatics with other)

I feel that I should start calling him out when ever I hear him abusing anyone.

Mind your own business as far as he is concerned.  This can only end in tears for you and more tears for your friend.

Encourage your friend to seek help from those that can help her in practical ways (her doctor, the police etc) and be there if she wants to talk.
