HE CERTAINLY doesn’t beat around the bush.

The head of the Australian Medical Association Queensland (AMAQ) has slammed residents of the Sunshine State, saying they’re too fat and drink too much, as the group lobbies for health reforms ahead of the state election later this month.

Dr Rudd also said unhealthy meals at school tuckshops should also be scrapped to prevent the next generation developing poor diet habits.

“The school tuckshops are supposed to be healthy places, but the reality is, they (aren’t).”

“We’ve all seen tuckshop ladies and there’s a reason why they’ve got tuckshop arms.”

Apart from being too fat, Queenslanders also drank too much, Dr Rudd said.

He has since apologised for the "tuckshop arms" remark.

Doctors and others are supposed to motivate, not blame and humiliate.

Those sentiments will have the opposite effect on the very people who need advice and incentives.

Don't disagree with you but sometimes a spade needs to be called a spade and put in BIG letters.

I am a prime example of "Because we eat too much, drink to much, have far to much sugar in our diet and don't exercise as much !"

The ONLY way the message gets through to me is when my GF is as blunt as this doctor.

I know it was posted he apologised for the following comment, but it is unjustified and a gross generalisation. Makes you wonder about people who make comments like this publicly.

"“We’ve all seen tuckshop ladies and there’s a reason why they’ve got tuckshop arms.”

A skilled doctor with good communication skills doesn't need to be that blunt ( especially to the point of rudeness) to get their message across to patients.

But a quick look around shows the message is not getting through.

A bit of bluntness never goes astray. I also think doctors should stop prescribing so many meds and start prescribing more diet and exercise.

I'd like to see some kind of fat tax imposed on take away shops too.

No.

Who was that cook who change the British culture in tuck shops ?

Anyway, he did a damn good job.

I think it's motivation. I hate walking, will only walk if I take the dog out or am hunting, and then I will walk miles and miles.

Jamie Oliver....he also exposed maccas for treating their meat with pink slime.....blerk. Lucky our food standards are a bit higher here in Australia and they werent using it here.

I enjoy a walk, but cant get motivated unless someone will come with me. I usually do a 5km lap around the block, sometimes twice when I'm feeling really energetic.

my biggest problem is this computer 😞

I think the tuck shop arms is a bit unfair. My sister isn't fat but she has those flappy arms, drives her nuts,  our grandmother had them too. I'm about 20 kgs over weight and I don't have the flappy arms.

The more I think about dieting and losing weight and getting off my **bleep** the more I get the compulsion to stuff food (junk) in my mouth Smiley Frustrated

We get jumped on when we mention hunting and gathering food.

The Aboriginie I stay with, she is an awesome hunter gatherer and most others her age are overweight,

she is still thin, slim and fit BECAUSE she walks everywhere and doesn't suffer from "Toyota desease".
