To say people misunderstand your posts because they neglect to read them properly is sheer arrogance. I too choose my words meticulously. But, sometimes, my editor draws a red circle round a sentence or even a paragraph in my manuscript and writes in the margin โI donโt understand what you mean here.โ
When this happens, what am I supposed to do? Should I think to myself โsilly git, she didnโt read it properly.โ? Or should I think โHmm, if my editor doesnโt understand it, then probably many of my readers wonโt either, maybe Iโd better have a good think about it and rewrite it.โ
Iโm sure that, just like you, Poddy, I have from time to time made posts here which have been misunderstood and misinterpreted โ but I am equally sure that in each case, far from being due to the negligence of other posters, it has been because, in an attempt to be clever or witty, I have strayed too far from the KISS principle. .
