I think it's pretty much open to anyone atm.
If there were renewed interest it could possibly even go back public, who knows after the year we've had really.

No need to get nasty and insulting domino-710. I'm not impressed.
So now you've got it in for Aussie teenagers, have you? Why am I not surprised!
Best I drop off now as we are off topic and I don't want to be responsible for another dramatic exit LOL.
Quite right, the topic is Americans and stories about how dumb / rude / self-centered / entitled / have feelings of superiority / racist / not generous enough some of them are.
Lol.

Actually, the topic is about what people on these boards think of Americans.
Lol, indeed.

Exactly - stories posted by Australians on an Australian board. Thought that was obvious?

How the US has hidden its empire
The United States likes to think of itself as a republic, but it holds territories all over the world โ the map you always see doesnโt tell the whole story.

I hope your aunt told the white woman where she could take her racist self! I admire her for the fact that she didn't see people the way American white folks did back then, and even now in many cases. Good for her!My aunt was incredulous. They had finally approached her at the end of the drying cycle of her washing (my aunt was a big woman and could look intinidating), just when she was about to leave. She said goodbye to the lady she had been talking to and ignored the white women......very typical of her. ๐
I wish I could have known her back then, I would have liked her. I had a white friend like that when we lived in The Big Easy, and she did not put up with any sass from other white women about us being friends. It was hard moving here and dealing with that kind of bigotry again for decades.

Unfortunately, they're right in far too many cases. And those types treat their fellow Americans just as badly for stupid reasons. Like skin color, or religion, or politics, or sexual orientation, to name a few.

I think America is still very ignorant about Australia.
Some years ago I was at the Melbourne Zoo admiring the koalas. An American tourist said somewhat dismissively, "We've got these in America." Silence all round, after a gasp or two. Finally the tourist continued ".....at the San Diego Zoo." There was much laughter after that. She might have meant she knew koalas were native to Australia and simply that the San Diego Zoo had some.
But at the San Diego Zoo itself....anyone remember this embarrassing incident from only two years ago:
I think that was funny. She was just having a joke with you all.
Hadn't heard of the San diego zoo thing, that was just sloppy research. They didn't mean harm, they made a mistake. I am just surprised none of the dancers spoke up and questioned what they were being hired for as they would have known that it was a NZ performance.
As to American knowledge, some know a lot, some don't. Back in the early days of the internet (think 1996) I spoke to a lot of Americans online. At that time most were college students or people in education and their knowledge was excellent. I was surprised at how many had in fact actually been here.
Times moved on and now every man & his dog is on the internet, so what can you expect. You'll get a range of talent.
It's easy to be critical but if we pulled up stray Australians and asked them for a run down on what they know about some other countries eg some of the smaller ones in Europe, I'm betting we would only get the bare basics, if that.

Re the woman at the zoo - to be honest from the tone of her voice she was NOT making a joke. Far from it.
I agree bad research made the San Diego Zoo look pretty stupid but they really blotted their copybook with this, "The zoo initially doubled down on their mistake, responding to criticism by saying Maori dancers were native to both Australia and New Zealand before later apologising for their mistake". I know that zoo has had a very successful Australian native animals display for years which is why I think such a mistake was so unblievable.
It's also very likely Aussies don't know as much about America as we think we do. I've already discovered friends in the UK know less about Australia that I expected....even when the news is very topical.
