What is the best way to freeze and unfreeze chocolate bars with short expiry left?

If you have some chocolate bars you got cheap and they expire today and you want to save them, do you just put them in the freezer?

some one gave me this sugar free, 99% cocoa bean chocolate on the weekend..........it was the most horrible thing I have ever tasted

actually i am still trying to figure out why it was called chocolate

My mom always would buy candy bars after halloween when they were marked down cheap and freeze them. I tend to favor the refridgerator over the freezer though.
