Erica, I was just meaning for you to do what is suitable for you LOL. When you said that you had been smoking for 55 years (I hope that was you) I kinda guessed you were a bit older than me.
I'm not quite at that age yet, so that is what is appropriate for me (well apparently, it should be more, but meh... )
When you break it down. it's not that much.
3 days a week, I do 1/2 hour, at gym, plus the 2 runs (about 30 mins, maybe 40) each way, and an hour on 3 other days including warm up)
I get pushed to do more, and occasionally I comply, but that usually wears off pretty quickly LOL

I am 77y old and if I had to run 5Km sstraight, I'll be dead. I do go swimming and walk about 1Km when weather permits.
bright ton, my OH was a 40+ a day smoker. After a health scare he quit cold turkey. I tried that, but got very irritable and argumentative. So now I am slowly cutting down, it helps me to feel that I am achieving something.
I don't smoke inside the house or in our car, even though OH said that he does not mind. And I never smoke when we go visiting family or friends. I can go for many hours without a smoke, but as soon as we get home, I am out the back with a **bleep**.
Erica
and I meant to say, that you seem pretty active!
My mother is almost your age, and she gets worn out just getting ready for water aerobics twice a week!
and laughin cos you got bleeped hahahaha

the worst addiction (from memory) are prescription benzodiazapines . Roche were on a winner there with something like a 97% recidivism rate.

one time when I did try to give up, my husband went and bought me some smokes and begged me to stop trying to quit LOL (He's a non smoker) apparently I'm not at my best when trying to quit LOLOL
