What historial era fascinates you the most?
Which historical person would you like to meet if you had the chance to travel back in time?

Future fascinates me more.
Forget historical figures, they can all go jump. If I had to go back, I'd like to meet up with a few of the ancestors and ask them what on earth they were thinking of, giving several of their children exactly the same name. If one died, the next of the same sex seemed to inherit the name.
I'd encourage a bit more creativity, it would make it much easier to sort out who was who a century or so later.

I so agree. I have an Ancestry subscription and have done family trees for quite a few people. Once you get back to the 18th century it can be a nightmare trying to work out who begat who.
There are a few historical events I'd like to spy on - for instance I'd love to find out the full sory behind the death of Edmund, the king of East Anglia who was kilied by Viking invaders in 869, but I can't think of any period I'd actually want to live in.

I love the houses, furniture/furnishings of the Victorian/ early Edwardian period. The vast lifestyle differences between the "haves and have nots" of that period is incredible, Yes, I know these differences existed in all time periods but this is the one that particularly interests me.
I see it as a period of great change both in the cities and on the land. Many advancements were made in a number of different areas. Women started to ( slowly ) gain more freedom, machines replaced the drudgery of manual labour, modes of transport changed greatly, medical science made some wonderful discoveries etc etc
While life seems easier these days ( or does it ? ), I find this era facinating

the 1960's for its music explosion, every week hundreds of great songs being recorded and distributed
many are still the most popular tunes played today
i'm still discovering gems today i have not heard before
they didnt have any wizz bang technology to turn 4th rate singers into stars, you had the talent or you didnt make it
no silly tv shows using tv gimikry to make people who would struggly as buskers into over night hit machines
you had your voice and very basic musical instruments and that was all
even in the 70's the music was flowing but the magic was begining to dull
i'm so lucky to have been born when i was for popular music

I love 60s music (especially the early 60s). The songs were so melodic plus there were the marvellous instrumentals.
I'm also still discovering singers and songs I had never heard ot. Thanks to YouTube I have started looking up more artists who were managed or had their records produced by Joe Meek and I've discovered some gems. One song I liked so much I found a copy on eBay in the UK and bought it....vinyl of course!
Glad to read you feel the same David. It seems there's not only a love of cats that we have in common.

I'd like to go back in time to solve some of the questions asked about Egypt's Pharoah Akhenaten and his son Tutankhamun.
What happened to Nefertiti?
What is the name of 'The Younger Lady' (identified by DNA as Akhenaten's sister & Tutankhamun's mother) and how did she die?
Who was Smenkhkare and what was his relationship to Akhenaten?
Was Kiya egyptian or a foreign princess and what happened to her?
What happened to Ankhesenamun after Tutankhamun's death?
That's just a handful of questions to be conclusively answered.

I would like to join you zanadoo.
I am fascinated by Egypt and the Pyramids. I was devouring high school history text books long before I was in high school and I have recorded every TV programme ever shown on the subject.
