What would Australia/Gondwana be like today if it had not been colonised by Britain?
Who would have colonised this country? The Dutch? The French? The Portuguese Or maybe Indonesia? or?
What would it be like under one of these other countries
What would Gondwana be like if it hadnt been colonised?

You are amused easily.
You are correct, I've never travelled to the northern areas of Australia. Isn't there a dam on the Ord River?
We do have rivers in other states though and we don't necessarily want a Hoover-like Dam. Or even a dam like on the Yangtse River.
But water collection of some sort may have been achieved for the west of the Great Dividing Range by some alternate settlers of this island.

@silverfaun wrote:Up North there is massive water courses and the massive Manton dam the Darwin river dam, the Ord river project, there's no end to the water on our continent but labor builds desalination plants at the cost of billions and they are NEVER used but we still have to pay....forever. Genuis.
Maybe we would have been better off if the Chinese had decided to stay.
My point was that to build an effective dam inland, there has to be an already existing body of fast flowing water that can be harnessed, which made the Hoover Dam possible. To divert rivers along the coast of NT and create fast flowing inland streams that travel far enough inland so as to completely transform deserts of Australia would be an impossible task, and to then create a reservoir and dam in the centre of Australia which is predominantly flat, is just a fantasy.
And I disagree with your view on desalination plants. The last great drought we had in 2006, everybody was crying foul and complaining about water restrictions. Just because many areas are not in a drought now doesn't mean it won't happen again. They are a safeguard against future droughts, I don't know why people can't get that.

How? Theories please.

Well you could turn the question in on itself and ask what would England be like if it weren't for the Roman conquest. Would the British even have been able to make it this far without borrowing the ideas and inventions from the Dutch, Spanish, French, China, Japan etc. Most of which got their ideas from the societies they had previously conquered

I don't know how. If I was that brainy, I wouldn't be here shooting the breeze with you.
If I was that brainy and had financial backing, I'd be actually standing on the walkway above a dam saying "good job, well done everyone" and taking a "selfie" or be feted by the masses for my ingenuity and forward thinking.
Think I will go and have some dinner now.

Well by her own admission, one less than all the ones available, obviously.

LOL, you've obviously never travelled to the Northern Territories. I somehow doubt anybody could construct a Hoover Dam out there!
Thanks for the laughs tho
