Some friends were surprised that after my OH had a fall I didn't call for an ambulance instead (as I don't drive) I call a taxi to take him to the hospital.
I don't and still don't think I was serious enough to call an ambulance.
What would you have done.

Only if I considered it to be an emergency situation, which obviously you and hubby didnt at that time.

I would have called the ambulance, they could have administered pain relief during transport, there may have also been an underlying issue you might not have been aware of.
Hope he feels better.
There is another number to call for non emergencies but you should call 000 and allow them to make the decision based on the information you give them.

Probably the same as you.
As long as the person / people involved can tell that is all that is wrong with them and no hidden complications or issues.
(ie Head trauma to me is automatic call or take to get checked out, regardless of what anyone else says).

In some places in Victoria-the trip would be quicker in a cab than an ambulance--

For someone else?, I guess I'd ask them. if they couldn't answer I'd then call and hope I didn't get the blame for injuries ect. The last time I did call for an ambulance, it was for me, I was in too much pain to drive to the hospital and didn't want to risk a wreck on the road. After that experance, I'll never call an ambulance for myself, or let anyone else call for me again. Hospitals are just as bad anymore. They are working for the police

You are right, Richo.
Not long ago I needed Hospital attention. First of all it took the Ambulance half an hour to arrive. OH could have driven me there in five minutes.
Then, because the Ambo forgot to record my Pension number, I got a bill.
$4,700.- for a three Km drive.

Doesn't have to be an emergency to call an ambulance.
Unless you have an up-to-date first aider or another trained person on hand (who would immobilise the area), call so that the pain can be eased and the injury not made worse.
Agree with Azureline totally.

You didn't have to pay though when you advised them.
