When Would you call an Ambulance

Some friends were surprised that after my OH had a fall I didn't call for an ambulance instead (as I don't drive) I call a taxi to take him to the hospital.

I don't and still don't think I was serious enough to call an ambulance.

What would you have done.

For someone else?, I guess I'd ask them. if they couldn't answer I'd then call and hope I didn't get the blame for injuries ect. The last time I did call for an ambulance, it was for me, I was in too much pain to drive to the hospital and didn't want to risk a wreck on the road. After that experance, I'll never call an ambulance for myself, or let anyone else call for me again. Hospitals are just as bad anymore. They are working for the police

There is another number to call for non emergencies but you should call 000 and allow them to make the decision based on the information you give them.

When he fell he was in the garden and I was inside the house.  He was able to pick himself up and walked into to me, he said "What are you going to do about this" and pointed to his shoulder .  It was obvious that it was dislocated.  I did ask if he had pain anywhere else, he said that he didn't. 

I thought it would be quicker to get a taxi.

if you know first aid and correctly

apply it to this specific injury then going 

by taxi would be ok, i guess.

if you don't actually know what you're

doing - call  an ambulance.

I have called a ambulance twice since I have been back home, could not drive myself.

The second call was because the hospital tried to kill me and I got home and had to go back.

I told them I was allergic to Penicillan.

Cost me $80 each time.

I have called an ambulance once for my FIL. He rang and said he was unwell and 'somebody' needed to come. I drove 40kms to find him in an awful state. He had a pacemaker fitted recently and developed an infection around his heart. I really think he should have called an ambulance himself as it turned out to be a medical emergency. He said he didn't think of it. I hope he does if something happens again.

I live three blocks from a large regional hospital, so unless it is serious I drive myself or family there. Quicker than the ambulance.

My ambulance membership account arrived last week. I paid it even though we are covered by our health fund. For less than 100.00 it makes me feel secure.
