Why Julia Gillard is not our worst PM

The loved and loathed

Date June 2, 2013

Paul Strangio

As Julia Gillard stares down the barrel of election defeat, where will her leadership rank in history?

Still months from September's election and epitaphs are already being written for Julia Gillard's prime ministership. Characteristic of these hyperbolic times, they lean towards the extreme.

The ''worst prime minister in Australia's history leading the worst-ever government'', asserted one veteran columnist, not concerning himself with any serious comparison between Gillard and the 26 previous occupants of the office.

Australian Broadcasting Corporation,  02/06/2013, Reporter: Andrew Catsaras

ANDREW CATSARAS, POLLING ANALYST: Well the voting intentions are essentially the same as they were last month. The ALP's primary vote is on 33, the Coalition is on 46 and the Greens are on 10. And that translates to a two-party preferred vote of 55 to 45 in favour of the Coalition.
And if we look at the two-party preferred graph, we can see that the Coalition has held a solid 10 point lead for four months now.

Now with respect to the better prime minister figures, Tony Abbott leads Julia Gillard by 41 points to 38.

What will history show?

Interesting question John 🙂

Care to predict? I know it would go against your grain but it would be a pretty educated prediction 🙂

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
