Yes... but new babies are everywhere... down the street, in the malls, the grocery store, at the library, being put into the car that is parked right beside you in the car park, sitting beside you at the Dr's.
If us older generation dont have our boosters, and be responsible, then how can we expect it from the younger generation?
This should not be a case of: Do as I say, not as i do!

I am not anti-immunisation, but I do not believe in medical procedures which are not necessary, we all have too many of these anyway.
The doc meant close contact with new babies, and I tend to agree with him about the risk.

..... you dont need close contact with a baby to give it whooping cough.
You only need to be in proximity of someone who is contagious.... and you are considered contagious for 14 days.
From no symptoms, to mild symptoms, to extreme symptoms! And you may never even realise it has just happened.
Who knows, Polks, you just might be at work with someone who is contagious ~ you become infected ~ you sit next to an older woman on the bus~ she becomes infected~ she goes home and babysits her new grandchild!
Immunisation is NOT an UNECESSARY medical proceedure, but rather, it is a responsible and important one to have.

Well, that's what he meant. He specifically asked me if there was a chance that I would be in contact with a new grandchild or greatgrandchild. In your scenario, the woman on the bus must be immunised.
There are many procedures which are not performed on the elderly because they are unnecessary, one of them is some immunisation.

... that woman on the bus could be me!

......never in a million years would i EVER wish a baby to get sick!!!!
and if i ever heard anyone say anything like that to me, they would most certainly get a bleeping tongue lashing off me that would curdle milk!!!

Az, just wanted to say that im sorry if my post ^^^ seemed as a go at you... that was not my intention at all.
I have never heard anyone say that they wish a baby ill health, and when i read your post, then i was astounded that someone would actually say horrid things like that, and i reacted...not well im afraid.
anyway, im sorry for my outburst.
It was not aimed at you.

Unless you are housebound the potential is there even if you don't associate with babies or children.
I am firmly in that group I'm afraid.
I go to medical, dental and optometrist appointments and that is it.
My own grandchildren are teenagers and don't even live in the same city so contact there is limited too. I am probably more at risk of contracting something from them than they are from me.
