Why Do People Do This?

We are selling our house & last weekend had our first open day. Our house looked gorgeous and everyone who came through said how lovely it was. We had 3 offers which eventially was down to one because of finances etc.

Well this one couple who were in a position to go ahead were very eager, and kept promising all week to go into the estate agents & sign the contract. However by Thursday they hadn't shown up and weren't answering their mobiles, so we had resigned ourselves they weren't genuine. On Friday THEY actually rang the agent, very apologetic and wanted to book an appointment to come in this morning to go ahead. Well, they didn't show up again.

I actually thought they would go through with it this time after it was THEM who rang the agent. Needless to say I feel very down at the moment. Why would anyone do this? Even our agent has never come across this type of behaviour, and can't understand why they have mucked everyone around all week.

Just wanted to vent, as we are back to square one.

you said it "...was down to one because of finances..."

it is 99% of the time down to just this the $'s.

Being a young couple maybe they or one or both are 'freaking out' at the $ committment req'd.

Don't mean to put a downer on you but imagine if you were looking at putting up what you are asking for your 1st or 2nd home......

Does not compare to what you probably paid for your 1st home.....compare %'s of house price and what your wage was back then to what young people are looking at now....more than 'freaky' material.

Best of luck selling though.Smiley Happy

Our agent said that sometimes people  put offers on a number of houses and play the field. Very inconsiderate IMO.

sometimes it's designed to pressure sellers into lowering their price, not a very nice game.

I know how you are feeling,a while back when we tried to sell our house by auction it was so frustrating because not one single person turned up to the first 3 auctions which was enough to make us pull our hair out as all the time and effort that went into organising the auctions.I suppose that it might have been a bad period in trying to sell a house but we ended up selling it eventually 8 months later and because we already purchased another house which needed some financing,we ended up paying most of the loan immediately after receiving payment from selling our other home.So basically even though you're desperate to sell it is a waiting game when it comes to selling a house as some sell the first time and some don't.

Some people are time wasters, don't let them get you down.

some  put offers on a number of houses and play the field.. I can see where that is an OK thing for buyers to do.. They really want house no 1 but incase they don't get an offer accepted for that (which can take time)  they want to keep in the running for house no. 2  or 3 as well.

You may have your hopes/expectations set up too high if you expect your house to sell instantly to the first few people that view it.

Yes, I know I'm impatient.  Just want to get up to Qld to be with son &  family. We are in our 60s, and not in real good health. We couldn't move before because my mum was still alive. She passed away from Alzheimers. I'm an only child & we had no other family here.

Grapes if you are in Sydney don't worry at all.  A family member had an open house last weekend also and their house sold within a couple of days.   The agent said they don't have enough properties atm and they have clients waiting.
