.......Telstra problems get put thru to offshore/over seas. These call centre people make 'promises' that don't eventuate.
If you ask to speak to an Australian in Australia you either get told that 'we cannot guarantee that you will get thru and you might get cut off.....or.....the wait time is 30 minutes'
If you go to the Telstra Shop they tell you that they cannot assist/don't have the authority......with my 2 probs anyhow!
So call Malcolm Turnbull's office in Canberra and get told that 'the Minister cannot assist.....best to call the Communications Ombudsman'.....I asked why do we have a minister for communications if he has no authority? She replied 'Well Telstra was sold off during John Howard's era so Telstra is a private entity now' I further asked 'So why do we need a Min for Comms then if they have no authority?' I received reply 'Well, the Minister has to oversee the Communications Ombudsman to make sure that ....blah.....blah.....blah happens'
.....hence my question: Why do we have or even need a Federal Communications Minister?
What are we paying the Federal Communications Minister to do?........what exactly?
Solved! Go to Solution.

I know science and aeronautics are not your forte P007, but I do wonder if more should be added after reading this:
"Any posters have a non-silly response as to Why do we have/need a communications minister pls?"
....especially since we do not have an Australian owned communications network.
Silly LNP doofas sold it off....like they sold off most of our Gold Reserves.
We have/need a communications minister to administer these:
Australian Broadcasting Corporation
Australian Communications and Media Authority
Australian Postal Corporation
Special Broadcasting Service
NBNCo
You might notice (?) that telcos, when PRIVATE, do not come under the purview of a government minister.
"we do not have an Australian owned communications network."
Really? Do please explain P007, I might be a little perturbed if my share holdings in TLS are not for a very successful/profitable Australian telco.
"Silly LNP doofas sold it off..." best thing for the then inefficient PMG/Telecom, selling it off. I bought T1 shares, and when the ALP Circus attempted to blackmail Telstra with NBN I bought a lot more.
So P007, if not Australia(ns) who does own the communications network we do not have ?

"we do not have an Australian owned communications network."
So what about Telstra, TPM/TPG?, does iiNet count? I would mention Foxtel which is 50% owned by Telstra, but that might be confusing, or not count, if TLS is not an Australian owned communications network.
Why won't the odoriferous communications minister put on some overalls and help out with your problems with a ASX listed public company P007 ?.
Who does own Telstra P007, if not Australians?, are my shares safe? why is Telstra publicly listed on the Australian Stock Exchange? is it a foreign plot?, will it become a network bubble? Why is it described as Telstra Corporation Limited (known as Telstra) and as Australia's largest telecommunications and media company? (owned by?).

You have written, P007, : we do not have an Australian owned communications network
Who does own Telstra P007, if not Australians?

P007, : we do not have an Australian owned communications network
I have a Telstra fixed line telephone connection and Telstra HFC broadband. Who owns them?
I have lots of Telstra (yummy) shares, I thought I owned them, and what about the majority of the 12 billion TLS shares, who owns them?

....especially since we do not have an Australian owned communications network.
Silly LNP doofas sold it off....like they sold off most of our Gold Reserves.
So who does own Telstra P007?
Gold Reserves sell off, that is an interesting variation!.
Gold reserve sale of 167 tonnes in 1997 "cost us" around $3.6 billion by 2015.
However, the ALP Circus doofas cost us a lot more with the Future Fund.
2007 The Future Fund had been given a total of 2 billion ( $ 9 billion) TLS shares @ $4.55, which they eventually sold at average of $3.20 (bottom area of market????) 2009/2011 Loss of value $2.7 billion, and in lost dividends around $7 billion.
If the Future Fund had not sold at the bottom (why then?) and kept their TLS shares, today the gain would have been $ 3.9 billion in share price and around $4.5 billion in dividends e.g if they had sold ($6.50) today their TLS shares would have netted $8.4 billion in capital gain and dividends.
Silly LNP doofas cost to us $3.6 billion
Silly ALP doofas cost us $8.4 billion and rising , that makes them doofas.
Why did the ALP sell TLS when they did? I bought a big block of Telstra when they were selling because of the ALP & NBN Circus, coupled with Telstra's sales of G3/G4 and its rose smelling prospects.
nษฅยบษพ
I know, perhaps the ALP were confused as to who owned Telstra.

Really P007?
Who does?, because "they" (????) are making a very good job of running TLS whilst the odoriferous Govt hold office!

"Mon man, you're a self-admitted tax avoiding leaner. You have no credibility and no authority to give anyone advice, unless it is aimed at those others of your ilk who are similarly immoral and unethical."
Interesting change of topic LR. So where have I "self-admitted " or even just self-confessed to being a "tax avoiding leaner"?
"No credibility", so why chat with me? or are you self-attracted to those who you think reflect your own self-persona?
"no authority to give anyone advice, unless it is aimed at those others of your ilk who are similarly immoral and unethical." Good, then I can advise you to stick to the subject, and tell me (and P007) who owns Telstra.
I am self-worried because I own a bunch of TLS (with a lot of other "ilks") and would want to know who I am associating with.
